In a religion where impression management is everything, these morons had the dumb luck to be caught! How embarrassing for the Watchtower.

The John Denver Issue, vote now.
by londoner inthis is for those of you who sent me a private message saying you dont believe me, your letting your old jw traits come out, you know, not believing things when the facts stare you in the face unless it comes from the org.
maybee you should go back and re join them.. to confirm what happened .
i was at a john denver concert in the uk many years ago, he asked all catholics to stand up, after he got them seated he did the same with church of england, then the same with a couple of other religions, after he asked all jw's to stand up he announced that the concert would not go on untill they had all left and he then left the stage.

And whether he hit a mountain at 215 mph or did a nose dive into the ocean maybe 300+ mph it's still pretty damn quick!
What we do know is that, when John died he was "Leaving on a jet plane/Don't know when I'll be back again/Oh babe, I hate to go". - Possibly his best song, a hit for Peter, Paul and Mary, if I'm not mistaken. And a prescient piece of writing.

In a gregarious organization, I can easily see how this statement by JD could being
misconstrued.A plausible conclusion for what happened on that specific occasion. But what about londoner's own eye-witness account of what happened in England?

"preaching to the ends of the earth"
Or, with the relentless passing of time and no end in sight, is that supposed to be "the preaching is to end on earth".

So, if they put the updates into an envelope with a tear-off contribution stub, or sold the updated pages at the literature counter, they would still get all their money, while reducing costs.
Hey stop it! You're giving me ideas and I think you're right.

That's a great idea. Page 121 issued on Jan 26th, 2005 now supercedes page 121 issued on Jan 12th, 2000. You would just rip the page out, put in the new and VOILA a new book!
There ya go! Just like an updated technical manual!Trouble is, when you've built up a vast printing empire, you kind of need to keep printing new books, to make it economically viable. So the binder solution would really slow down the numbers of completely new books printed.
On another issue, if the witnesses are to receive their "meat in due season", how come apostates receive it first? We hear about it long before the JWs do! That's a real blow to the grisly old chefs in Brooklyn, isn't it?

Will someone please tell me what a wanker is? And, I hope I am not one. khazar
Khazar you betray your nationality. Wanker is an old English word for "masturbator". To the best of my knowledge, the word has never caught on in the US, but it is used frequently in Australia, New Zealand and Britian to describe someone who is held in contempt. If some calls me a wanker, I usually am not pleased - unless they're good friends and they "kidding". I myself would not use it to describe someone but, rather sneakily, I might say to a person who calls someone else a wanker: "I agree". Which is very hypocritical of me, I know.

High rates of depression in Org.
by chuckyy ini noticed after being a jw for a while that many members of my congregation were having to take antedepressants.
(i counted at least 30 out of 100).
after a few years i too began to have bouts of depression and problems with anxiety.

The Witnesses should not be held to a lesser standard than any other group who puts people in charge of others, and make no mistake, the elders are in charge of others and to the r&f represent the face of the organization.
Hey Jean - I could not have expressed it better. There is a huge responsibility in giving out advice and pronouncements to emotionally vulnerable people. My own observation, though, is that the JWs are one of many religions whose response to mental illness actually exacerbates it. It is no excuse, I know, but the elders out-of-their-depth responses to mental illnesses occur in any number of other so-called "Biblical" Christian groups. I know because I have treated members of these religions and have had firsthand experience of the way other church members' "Scriptural" responses often make it harder, and sometimes, impossible for my clients . In my opinion, if JW elders are called to account by the legal system, so should the leaders of any number of other religions!

I can't believe so many of you don't believe eye witness statements considering so many people have confirmed that this happened, how did you ever have the balls to question and then leave the JW's.
I'm with you Poztate. Hey you skeptical guys, if you won't believe an eye-witness account, why the hell should you believe a newspaper account of it? Since when have newspapers been arbiters of what did or did not happen?
Londoner clearly said he was in the audience and saw and heard it take place. Of course you can choose to remain skeptical, but show some respect for londoner for goodness sake.

I loved John Denver. He was a passionate man, and it was the 60's and 70's a time of peace and love and all that jazz.. I think that JWS not standing for the flag salute and other things is disgraceful and I wish more people would throw them out of concerts. When I think of the events I attended and would refuse to stand for the salute or sing "God bless america" or bow my head out of courtesy for a prayer, hell , someone should have thrown us out.j just my humble opinion
Er, sorry, but while I agree it is an opinion, it is definitely not humble. I don't agree with the JWs stand, but I will respect their right to their stand and endorse their respectful approach to the issue. By the way, it's all very well associating John Denver with 1960s and 70s "peace and love", but I don't think it would have been asking too much of this "loving and peaceful man" to keep his religious bigotry to himself.
