Which Bible?
by Hoofie inhello friendly folk,.
i'm afraid i don't have time to scroll through everything on this site, so i thought i'd ask the question instead - does anybody recommend a "neutral" translation of the bible that i can use as the basis for my studies..?
i just want to start doing my own research and i'd be grateful for any advice from fellow ex-jws as to where to start.

Wow! What a reply! Thank you so much. I really appreciate that kind of advice - it's so beneficial because I really didn't know where to start. If you were here, I'd hug you I've been so desperate to find a path to God but never knew how - my mind was so filled with JW doctrine I couldn't ever look beyond it without enormous guilt or feeling like I shouldn't really be interested.
I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks.

This board.... How did you find it?
by hubert ini am wondering... how did you first come across this board?
..... searching the web?
a friend?

I found it via a link on one of the other ex-JW sites...not sure which one. I was drawn to it because the people on here seemed friendly and genuinely willing and able to help each other. I'm not really into forums where people simply criticise the Witnesses and offer no constructive assistance - I need guidance and help from those who've been in the space I'm in. I got a sense of fellowship too on here. I have always thought about joining a board but was scared because I thought people would try and talk me into going back somehow. How wrong could I have been! I'm really glad I'm here. Thanks everyone.

Hello friendly folk,
I'm afraid I don't have time to scroll through everything on this site, so I thought I'd ask the question instead - does anybody recommend a "neutral" translation of the Bible that I can use as the basis for my studies..? I just want to start doing my own research and I'd be grateful for any advice from fellow ex-JWs as to where to start. I really want to start building up my spirituality again but drawn from my own efforts this time, rather than following any organised religion. I know the NIV is well respected. Any thoughts?
Sorry if this thread repeats any previous ones from time gone by.
Thanks.

lol Xena is wicked too... I'm not quite into the collectibles but I did go to a Buffy fan convention earlier this year yes I know that's sad but I met Drusilla!!!!!
I'm glad it's not deemed unsuitable by all. A JW acquaintance of mine (who got back in touch for one brief, fleeting moment to encourage me to go back 8 years after I left) referred to it as "demonic" and I just laughed. It's one of the funniest programmes I've ever seen. The humour is unbeatable!

Hey guys
I'm an ardent Buffy fan - can't help but love the humour and am very sad now that it's over, but thatd oesn't stop me watching the DVDs. I just wondered if anyone thinks it's a bad thing to watch? Maybe I've become desensitized, or maybe I just don't take it seriously, but it's never spooked me out.
Any thoughts?

A Letter from A Witness
by cruzanheart inone of my witness friends in england told a friend of hers out in service about how i'm not going to meetings anymore, what a shame, etc., etc., so this well-meaning little person decided she wanted to write me a letter.
i asked why, and she told me the story of this young man.
remember how i was able to leave the matter of my husband?s relationship with jehovah in his hands?

Hey Nina
That's a great reply you sent. Isn't it interesting how in "the truth" people in "the world" count for nothing? When I first left it took me a long time to stop sneering at people, and that's an awful way to behave. When I was df'd I realised I had no "survival instinct" nor an ability to deal with real feelings - hurt etc. What a way to live! They are so naiive and that's dreadful when they claim to be enlightened. You're so right - Jesus dealt with people of all kinds impartially. Who on earth do they think they are? I have seen more glimpses of humanity in the last 8 JW-free years than any time when I was attending meetings and being a "good christian". I'm back in touch with my family, who suffered whilst I was a JW because I had no time for any of them as they weren't believers. I have one friend who is still a Witness, and she NEVER preaches to me. She loves me now like she did then, and always understands me, never questioning my motive for leaving and never emotionally blackmailing me.
I admire you Nina, because you had such a long journey in the JWs and yet have turned your mind around to maintaining faith in God. I hope someday to be able to unlock my mind and rebuild my relationship with our Creator, on neutral erms, withou having had my mind made up for me.
Take care,
Hoofie
