Yes, that was what George Lucas did, partially. If you have ever watched any films by Akira Kurosawa you will see quite a bit of "borrowing" from him in the first three Star Wars films.
A Hero With A Thousand Faces is also a great book. My dad (JW PO) hated the fact that I was reading this, but what could he do, it was required reading in my Humanities class.
i'm usually the first one to stir this particular pot but it get's so frustrating to keep coming up against the same old arguments.

how many times have believers argued for a designer but refused to answer the obvious question of the designer's origin?.
The main reason that I believe in God is simple. ; I have not read every book, volume or article in the Library of Congress' collection of nearly 800 million pieces. ; If I do not posses that sort of knowledge on a finite level, how can I possibly say that God does not exist or that "harder" evidence of His existence does not exist somewhere.

I presume that the book in question is Joseph Campbell's The Power of Myth. This is a great book and it helped me considerably to understand the correlation between the Judeo-Christian religion and other religions. I read this book in High School, and I think I need to read it again.
for me anyways.. i still have nightmares about demon attacks.
that was the one belief that really had a grip on me growing up.
i was terrified of demons and even thought i was being attacked one night for bringing home a toy with a pagan symbol (ying-yang) on it.
I never really had nightmares as a JW or after I had left. But I did have issues with major natural cataclysisms. After the Whittier Narrows earthquake in 1987 I went back to "mother" out of fear or Armeggedon.
do you think that there will come a time when the wts will be a thing of the past and people will look into their history books and say "oh yeah those jw's were around for over 120 years and now they are no longer around today in the year 20___?
" my friend thinks that jw's will not collapse and will probably get "stronger" with time.
i hope not because i am just sick of the whole wts and jw's religion.
I believe that the JWs will continue to hemmorrage people from countries that have internet access. However they will continue to grow in countries or communities that do not. I think that within the next 15 or 20 years the WTS will be further marginalized in the first world countries, and that the WTS will be likened to the Christadelphians.

i'd say out of 10 elders, the average "sharp" ones are 2 or 3.
I don't think that the Elders I knew were "dumb." Misguided, but not dumb. Most of them were self-employed with thriving businesses. Most of them were contractors. While some of you end to look down on people that had janitorial or window washing businesses, I tend to admire anyone that creates his/her own wealth rather than relying on some employer to pay him. It takes a lot of common sense to run a business.
That being said, I only knew two elders that went to college. One is a professional photographer & the other a contractor. While they both tended to downplay their education (gotten prior to becoming JWs), there was a difference in the way they talked when compared to other Elders that did not have the same education level. The funny thing is that they both hold my dad in high esteem, and all he has is a high school diploma. Isn't it funny, what practical exerience does?
