Bottom line is that if the WTBS doesn't control the itinerary they dont approve of the event
Isn't this the real reason the WTB&TS took over the quick-builds??
our congregation has really gone down in recent months.
the friends don't talk to each other, there have been many disfellowshippings and jc's.. an elder i was talking to in the kh after the meeting says that "he and the other elders would like to have a congregation picnic but can't because bethel disapproves of large social gatherings.".
i looked at this elder and felt sorry for him - it was like hearing a child cry because mother wouldn't let him outside to play baseball.. the cong.

ok i don't bother much about celebrities and all this craziness about couples getting together and breaking up is more than likely media blown out of proportion but..... tom cruise and katie holmes .... something here really doesn't feel right to me.. we have older man vs young woman.
clearly a man who has no problem making a spectacle of himself - jumping on the furniture on international tv - she seemed rather shy and subdued.
a man who has no problem voicing his religious beliefs as if he and he alone has the ultimate truth of matters - she not so experienced so follows his beliefs (according to the media).
Tell me if this isn't odd.
Back in the day Tom co-starred in a movie called Taps with George C. Scott & Timothy Dalton. It was reaired on Fox Movie Channel last week. In the movie Tom plays a brainwashed squadron leader in a military academy. I found much of his character then to be similar to the way he acts now.
Life imitating art?

Very astute observations. It seems to be a train wreck in the making.

This was my biggest gripe. Anything other than meetings, field service or private WT studies were good. Anything else was bad.
Things that were discouraged in my Hell: attending any high school sporting event, congregation softball & volleyball games, day trips to the river, day trips to the mountains, overnight camping trips.
The sad thing was that my family never had non-elder or MS families over for get togethers. This seemed to fortify the elite clique status of the elders & their families.

Isn't this the reason that Jewish legal traition held the testimony of a woman lower than that of a man?
Ducks from the flying items thrown by the wonderful ladies of JWD.
Is it just me, or is this the best show on TV!!!!!!
if it was proven that jesus, in fact, has a bloodline.
what do you think this will do to religions?
and is it at all possible to prove that mary magdalene and jesus had an intimate relationship?
As far as stating somthing verbatim from the book, maybe I should read it? ; Would it really be worth the time? ; Will it change my mind about the Death, Burial, and resurection of Christ, I don't think so, Other than that is the story at least entertaining or is it just trying to prove a point? ; ;
I have read. It's not Hemingway or Salinger, but it's a fun read, ie. mind candy.
I don't know your view on the deth, burial & resurrection of Jesus, so it's hard for me to say. I am a believer, and I merely laughed at Leagh Teabing (a major character in the book), and is anti-Christian rants.
I think that Brown wrote something to get people talking about Christianity. He succeeded.
i attend a group activity every week and there is a young jw's woman that attends there with me and everytime we stand up to salute the flag she refuses to stand or say the pledge of allegence.
she told me that if she did the elders would df'd her for idolatry.
i have never heard of jw's getting kicked out for saluting the flag.
I don't know, but one time I got a talking-to for merely being seen standing for the National Anthem.

I did not realize I was raging. I was just saying I don't believe it is that important if Jesus was married or not. It won't change ;the faith of most believers, but ;maybe ;I'm wrong on that. I don't think the Catholic church or any other will crumble if he was married.I honestly did not know who Dan Brown is, as I have not nor do I have any plans on reading the ;book by him or seeing the Tom Hanks movie. Not for any other reason than I just don't want to. I may chose differantly in the future ut who knows. I seened to upset you whit what I said so I am sorry.
2112: I just found it odd that you called the advocation of Jesus' single status "legalism." As I mentioned, there is universal consensus that there is no evidence supporting Jesus being married. I also pointed out that when given a chance to portray Jesus as being married, Paul doesn't, but refers to Peter's marital status. However, that is only scholarly consensus & evidence. Those are obviously not as important as opinion.
No, you didn't "upset" me." You amused me. I just find it amusing that there are people that will state something verbatim from The DaVinci Code one moment, and then the next claim that they don't know who Dan Brown is or what The DaVinci Code is.
