Pentecostals - your views?
by digderidoo ini have been considering attending a meeting at a local pentecostal church and wondered if anyone has any experience of them and would appreciate peoples views.. the only thing that is stopping me attending is the thought of it being another religion.
you know growing up be told 'false religion' is bad and all that.. yours paul.

I think was was taken today
by Elsewhere ini was walking to my car after work, it was very cold (low 40's f) and getting dark and a beggar woman walks up to me sobbing and crying about being cold.
she didn't want to go through another very cold night light last night (low 30's f) and she needed money to get into a local shelter.
yes, it costs $12 per night to get into a homeless shelter... that's texas for ya.

The Positive Thread

i'll make the start: after years of fading, my believing wife stopped attending the meetings also and i no longer have to be careful about what i'm talking about when hanging around with the rest of my jw friends.
for me this is quite an achievement and i'm happy with it.. .

I went to the hairdressers yesterday and they cut my hair and made it gorgeous blonde again. I am a natural dull blonde myself. I also have a very funny hairdresser who makes the colour perfect, cuz we do not want to be PORN blonde (his words).
Oh and also, I have been out for 5 years, and besides my mum, I now have contact with two more sisters whom left.

Wikipedia being abused by Jehovahs Witnesses
by Simon ini had a look at the wikipedia entry for jehovahs witnesses yesterday and noticed that it wasn't as comprehensive as it once was.. most links to non-pro-jw sites have gone as is anything truly critical or exposing of their beliefs and practices.. last night i added a link to this site to the "other sources" section.
this morning it is gone.. i wonder whether this is some private zealot who has decided to do it or an organised campaign?.

"For years the society has been warning about the dangers of the internet. Now we have to empashise this once again. Wikipedia used by millions of people is being abused by apostates, who are trying to diss The Truth. Thanks to Jehovah several brothers from accross the world have been making it their mission to alter any lies made about our beloved organisation"

Respect-O-Meter
by purplesofa inwe all have a little guage in us that measures the amount of respect we have for ourselves, our enviroment, each other, etc, etc, .
we can set a certain criteria and in some cases our level of respect can fluctuate with new information we take in that is either negative or positive........creating plus or minuses in our respect-o-meter.
we can not like something but still respect it.. loss of respect for a person, idea, business, ourselves can be devestating.

Crosses, Flags and JWs....
by lavendar inmy husband and i (we are not jws) were at dinner the other night, and we were talking about jws and how flags and crosses are reviled by them.
well, my husband i guess was feeling silly and thought it would be fun to walk into a kingdom hall on sunday, with him wearing a t-shirt w/ a big american flag on the front......and i would wear a large cross around my neck.
heh heh.

Yep, I agree with that !! Do, I wonder what would happn if you would continu to kiss your cross. But then again, maybe that would be pushing it ....

It may not make any difference, but if it did,....what would you suggest?
by whyizit inmy jw friend and i had a conversation.. it seems she received an anonymous letter from an "apostate" person.
explaining why they left the wts.. of course, this person must have left the jws to pursue a deviate lifestyle.
since there weren't a bunch of sited bible verses to substantiate her claims, my jw friend is trying to dismiss it all as a sour person who thinks they missed having a childhood, due to over-zealous jw parents who were supposedly "too strict".. she comented that had this person given good biblical reasons as to why she left, and supported those reasons biblically--then she might be more inclined to take the letter seriously.. now, i know this is a bunch of bs.

My exeperience says that as long as someone does NOT want to see reason ,.. no matter how many arguments with biblical references you throw at them, they won't see reason.
