The Global Flood
by coldfish ini've just read an intersting article on the flood to do with dates and whether is was truly global or a regional flood.. http://www.commentarypress.com/essay-flood.html.
my father used to be an elder for many years and the flood was one of the things that made him walk away not just from the jw but also belief in the bible.
he was hung up on issues like the flood taking place about 3500 bc and how that fit in with the pyramids.. i don't know much about egyptian history or the ages of the big pyramids, but his reasoning was if the flood wiped out every human on earth except noah etc then at 3500 bc there were only 8 people on earth.

in light of this, how can some still spout the mantra that this is a religion of peace and that it's only the "radical fringe" that are causing problems?

are you sure you are talking bout the NT? the NT is all about keeping your head out of politics, no matter what. the gospels are about loving your enemies (never read anything about conquesting or invading them). if you call yourself a christian, then the muslims are your neighbours you have to love like yourself, remember?
you are a very good example of how christians really are... talking about love but trying to incite separation and hate towards "the nonbelievers". and the only reason why western countries are more developed, is that people questioned their religion. the outcome is education, wich in islamic countries (and 3rd world countries in general btw) is not yet available as one would wish. -

as to statistics regarding murders compared to population: in the US about 6 murders are commited per 100,000 a year - in my country we got a rate of 1.8 attempted murders per 100,000/year (with only very few of them actually being successful). i am not patriotic in any way, maybe someone has statistics for other western countries. -

that's basically what i'm saying, with the exception that i wouldn't call it a historical inevitability, as circumstances are a matter of chance/coincidence. so yes, i'm saying noone is completely responsible for his acts, but for security reasons such a person has to be locked away and looked after by a professional psychologist.

however, i can't find any reference in this pseudepigraphical writing that would even losely have a connection to a fight between michael the archangel and the devil.
what i also find confusing, that the "book of jubilees" is sometimes called "testament of moses" too, but that's a whole different story.

of course not. but these "scriptures" are interesting historical documents which still have huge impact on our culture. and if you want to show someone that the bible aint god's word, you better be familiar with it.
