  Possible scene for book. Opinions needed: DEATH OF PASTOR RUSSELL

  pastor russell lay dying.. outside the sleeper car pampas, texas flatland spun by like a charabanc ride.. fits of shivering and cramps wrenched his gut throughout the long night.

  the cup of hot tea at bedtime had soothed and left him drowsy.

  later, cramps took hold and wrung him out.. his spectacles lay carefully folded beside his bible like a dead spider.

  HIS DYING HOURS

  A few weeks ago he started on a trip to the Pacific Coast, preaching every evening, and traveling throughout the remainder of the night and of the day. His last sermon he preached to the Congregation at Los Angeles; and being too weak to stand, he sat throughout the discourse. He left Los Angeles Sunday evening on his return to Brooklyn, and rapidly grew weaker. Seven hours before his death, addressing his traveling companion, Brother Menta Sturgeon, he said, "Make me a Roman toga."

  Using the bed sheets, Brother Sturgeon made a toga, which Brother Russell put on himself. He stood erect for a moment, and then lying down on the couch in his Pullman drawing room, closed his eyes, thus in symbolic language speaking of death. A great deal of the Bible is written in symbolic language, and it was quite appropriate that he should speak his last message in symbols. It is interesting here to know what a Roman toga symbolizes: Augustus’ Poet Laureate, said, "It is by the toga that the royal nation is recognized." The word toga means a covering garment (white robe). It was the official robe of higher magistrates, priests and of persons discharging vows, and was worn on special occasions, such as celebrating a triumph.

  (highlighting is mine) for thinking that Russell must have really thought he was "above" others.

  Who is your Favorite "local" band...

  Since I love Blues, I get out often to listen to local bands. There is a large tavern about 1/2 mile from my house called Harvey Wilner's and every Saturday he has a band playing. There have been some really great rock, blues, and classic rock bands playing there, but my favorite is a Pittsburgh group called the Mystic Knoghts. These guys are fantastic and Starting in Januray they will be there every Wednesday evening with open mike night where anyone with some talent can jam with them.

  These guys have played with some of the biggies in the business too! What is so great about live music is that you are right there within a few feet of the band and get to gab with them during breaks.

  A great book that is a real eye-opener. I recomended it to a woman who had been studying for years off and on and they were pressuring her to get baptized. That was about 2 years ago. Once she read the book, she never went back. And the person who studied with her and in a way was her best friend avoids her like the plague now.

  I would suggest for anyone wanting to get the book to get it straight from Commentary Press.

  Moles - How do I murder them? Will you be an accessory?

  i speak of the furry kind that burrow under my yard and destroy it.

  this year in our area they were terrible.

  i do not lie when i state that nearly every square foot of my front lawn was tunnelled this summer, some of it three and four times after i pressed down the tunnels with my feet and mower.

  Jeff.....

  Having worked in pest control........Orkin and other local company's..............I have learned that no pesticide or rodent poison works on moles. But.........believe it or not.........YOU'VE GOT TO TRY this.

  The one thing that works and works very well.......is JUICY FRUIT GUM (if you can find it)

  A piece of slightly chewed JUICY FRUIT GUM placed in each mole hole will eradicate them very efficiently.......and fast.

  Seems they love the aroma and taste of the gum. But their digestive system can't process it. It kills them within hours of eating the gum.

  Once done..........no mole problem.

  Arian-a spider But how does it know what my profile is? I haven't posted it anywhere. This is kinda scary since this Arian-a-spider fits me to a tee.   i've finished writing my novel (50 thousand words) about my years spent in federal correctional prison when i was an obedient little jw.. the editing and rewriting stage now commences.. i need your help!.

  here is how you can help me.. i can't know what an outside mind wants to find out concerning this experience.

  i can only conjure up what seems interesting to me.. tell me what you want to know about such a personal experience.. that will give me a checklist to compare to what i've written already.. i may have missed many little details which are very important to a reader.. i may have neglected essential questions which must be answered in order to satisfy the mind.. please offer me your curiousity.. thanking you in advance; i appreciate your taking the time to advance my novel to the finish line.. (i wrote it as a fictional work because i could not honestly write about myself without the distance of this device.. so, i made myself into a character with a different name.. the identity of everyone else is non-fiction.

  Terry,

  I just came upon your thread and I must say that I wish you well with your book. Not having the "smarts" or the mindset to get into giving advice, all I can say is that I'm and avid reader and can't wait until you publish and I can get a copy.

  What you said here is something I sometimes wonder. But I can also add the word "what" after "who". Who knows, I might have pursued another line of work that I could really get into, instead of just getting by because the "end" was coming soon.

  What keeps me awake at nights is wondering who I would have been had I never encountered this religion! It is a very disturbing question.

  my wife (active witness) and i (inactive, haven't attended in over a year) just got memberships to the ymca today.

  it's the only fitness place in town with a swimming pool.

  I just made Caregiver of the Year!!!

  i went to a holiday party at work today and was totally surprised to win the "caregiver of the year" award.

  i work as a cna for an elder care agency and have been there 9 months.

  but i have more than 15 years experience with the elderly.. anyway, several of my clients wrote in letters to our corporate offices to explain why i should win the award.

  Since I subscribe to NETFLIX, my favorite movie of all times can change at any given viewing.

  Right now..........I can say SNOW DOGS with Cuba Gooding JR. is my favorite of all time. And this is one I saw about a month ago with 3 to 4 more in between.

  Whatever I watch next might replace it.
