Here it is ... your moment of zen.
by Markfromcali inok i only have the concept right now, but wouldn't it be cool if we could have quotes that are like the moment of zen bit from the daily show with jon stewart?
what i'm thinking is quotes from this board, i mean look at how many posts we get there has bound to be some classic statements made from time to time, we just need to recognize it and save it!
just imagine it all in one thread, it would be great..

Medicine (for JWism) vs. Healing
by Markfromcali ini was thinking how the exit process as facilitated by people learning 'the truth about the truth' is rather like treatment of a disease, medicine can get rid of it but for example we know how chemotherapy can be hard on the body.
healing, then, would be something different and may be necessary after the 'harsh medicine.
' it's easy to resort to 'time heals all wounds', but when the wound is really deep obviously it helps to have something other than just sitting around waiting, because you're probably going to wait a really long time.

JW related movie titles
by Markfromcali ini think there was a thread on this at some point but search is not working, wouldn't know the keywords anyway.. but like i just thought of escape from brooklyn bethel - instead of escape from new york.. it would be cool if someone can write little blurbs for these too.
anyone have/remember others?

Consciousness and mental health
by Markfromcali ini thought it would be good to point out the difference between consciousness work, such as meditation and certain types of spirituality, and mental health.
although there are some overlaps as it does deal with your mind, it's occurred to me that mental health is primarily concerned with the psyche, and in that sense it might be considered a type of specialization in terms of a particular work dealing with human consciousness.
while things like meditation can help give you a degree of peace - and sometimes lasting shifts in consciousness - it would be good to understand the difference.. these days meditation is becoming more popular, and people are attracted to paths like buddhism for the same reason, but it really isn't a substitute for mental health care.

Vulnerability and being open minded
by Markfromcali ini don't know if this has ever been specifically addressed in a thread before, so i thought i'd go ahead and start it.
what i mean by vulnerability has a big emotional aspect, but what i want to point out is how it is really not so separate from our thought process.. often times we find that people who disagree will do so out of 'emotional reasons', but i suggest that the emotions are secondary and is really a form of defensiveness.
in fact, if you pay attention to the whole process, you may notice a certain visceral feeling where it feels like a contraction, and then the emotional response either distances, blocks or turns away from the issue at hand, and the one feeling threatened will stop responding to reason.. we might consider this as a recognition that the mental identification is threatened, which is to say my religion, my way of thinking, experiences and the like.

Help in identifying a piece of artwork
by Markfromcali inok it's one of those asian zen/taoist simple paintings, i saw it on a website and just love the joy expressed and it's just darn cute!
i'd love to get a hold of a print or something.. so for those of you with an art background, could you possibly point me in a certain direction, maybe atleast identify the era or whatever?
i know there's atleast one artist on this board - (seven?

The meaning of wildflowers
by Markfromcali inread this quote today in a sufi book - it is actually from a zen guy but anyone who knows something about sufis can see why it was mentioned in that context.
in the style that jamest often reminds us in:you've traveled up ten thousand steps in search of the dharma.. so many long days in the archives, copying, copying.. the gravity of the tang and the profundity of the sung.
make heavy baggage.. here!

the best and the honest
by Markfromcali ini just saw before sunset, which was good btw, but i really wanted to post this one quote which caught my attention:.. i had this idea of my best self, you know?
and i wanted to pursue that ... even if it might have been overriding my honest self.. .
and isn't that what much of being religious and spiritual is about, trying to be a good, righteous person - the best you can be?

Us against Them
by Markfromcali inhas it occurred to you that maybe even after leaving the wts, this basic attitude remains?
in fact, might it not just be transferred to the context of exjws vs jws?.
no doubt not everyone sees this as an issue, and this is not at all to dismiss the things they have done, but on a personal level, in terms of your own consciousness and peace of mind, has it been looked at from this perspective?.
