That's very creative. :) Of course, I wonder who would fall asleep first - one of them or me.

I recently heard of a pregnancy hormone that is supposed to help with weight loss, I forgot the mechanism of action but at least somewhere in the program the set point is supposed to be changed. It's made out of horse urine.
No R. Kelly jokes please.

JWs REFUSE to Reason!
by brotherdan inso last night my wife brought the situation up again and kept telling me how sorry i'm going to be for what i'm doing to our family.
i kept a mild attitude and tried to reason with her.. she refused!.
i went about it in the way that sweet baby cheezits recommended.

Just because you may not say anything it doesn't mean you don't do anything, you can watch and observe her behavior. And not just what she says to you or other people, some of the things you observe indirectly may be very telling.
Also I don't know if you have any psychology background but it probably makes sense to get some kind of general bearing that way instead of just viewing it in terms of mind control. You'll have a broader context to work with and some of those things you observe will becomes useful then.

She probably doesn't even recognize that she's just trying to protect her sense of self in terms of the JW identity. Rather than actually reasoning it becomes about ego.
It's really like the mind also dominates over the heart in a sense, so that she cannot or will not acknowledge your sincerity. Unfortunately once they know where you stand it's going to be that much harder because you yourself will be framed in terms of their belief system, rather than who you really are.

Why do Witnesses pay attention to the scientific community at all?
by sabastious inwitnesses relish in the fact they are "bible literalists.
" and they use it as the ultimate authority.. why then do they even pay attention to science?
science does nothing but contridict the bible.. why don't they just ignore science, call it demonic, and just read the bible and their literature.. the world is controled by satan, therefore any science is from the devil himself.. why do they trust any of it?.

It's called cherry picking. Or like this quote I always remember from a statistics textbook: "Most people use statistics as a drunken man uses a lamp post - for support rather than illumination."

Could the invention of religion have been a mistake?
by Mad Sweeney inis it possible (and is there any evidence?
) that religion was invented by mistake?
that perhaps someone wanting to describe the reasons for things not understood used metaphors that the ignorant took literally?

*scratches chin* Hmm, a lot of work DOES get outsourced to India these days..
Of course what we do know pretty clearly is that any effort to get others to follow does not encourage them to exercise their own development. Even if someone was pretty even handed if they just go by what someone else says they're not taking responsibility for themselves.

It may be useful to reframe the question in terms of less than fully conscious acts rather than a mistake. It is conceivable that someone has a shift in their consciousness and tries to communicate it as best as they can, but not only might it be misunderstood but the result may be that it creates a following rather than prompt others to look within themselves for the same experience. If someone was naive about stages of consciousness development they may very well not appreciate that some people are just not going to see things that way at least for a while. A person may be a reluctant leader, and things could even take a backward step if it appeals to their ego and they actually end up having the power get to their head..

I'm with you Tammy, but religion is just the topic here. That's why I made the distinction of following vs. expressing something from your heart. One can have the intent of just communicating an experience to others rather than have that be made into something to follow. As for any possibility of being misled, that might be where the seeker is not particularly clear about just what is in their own heart, and there's just the tendency to follow someone who seems to know.
I suppose you can say religion is kind of like outsourced faith, which of course makes no sense. It is actually not even just a matter of mind control, but also mind over heart in a sense - and if the mind is really off in its beliefs and such it just doesn't leave much room for faith or anything heart based.
