  i'm wondering if they felt they needed to change their teachings on this because they feared legal action against them for disenfranchising their people.

  No chain of command? Well if that's the case, how can you explain how the elders in every congregation are all on the same page? How is it the elders know to push people to attend more meetings, to make more field service hours and every other command that comes from Brooklyn? The elders are told how to handle things from central command, Brooklyn.

  So you're saying there is no accountability, and that's how they set it up. You are probably correct there. But I don't see that strategy working for them long-term. They'll have some legal trouble. Just look at the problems with the child molesters now.

  XQ's -- you really think so?

  Still, I don't think your argument stands, unless you add that the generals and colonels and sargeants insisted the soldiers stay and fight. Then maybe...

  After all, it's the elders, etc. who enforce Watchtower doctrine on the R&F. So, why aren't they being held accountable wrongfully disfellowship?

  I'm sorry you are going through a tough spot. I think depression, if that's possibly what you are experiencing, is a difficult thing to beat on your own. I went through depression and therapy and now when I'm down, I know it's because of my irrational thinking on some level. I try to identify that and things get a little easier to deal with.

  Actually you demostrated the lack of control the watchtower has. If GW Bush told the troops to come home, but they kept on fighting because they thought it was right would you think he was in control?

  XQ's I think he was referring to this argument you made above as fallacious. Your comparison is inadequate. English Patient, thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

  " sometimes i think perhaps armageddon will come in my life-time.

  the one scripture i always think of is the one in revelation where it says that jehovah "will bring to ruin, those ruining the earth.

  Hmm. XQtypos - that's really great for you. If they are no more right than anyone else why can't they just admit they are just one version of a story that may or may not be correct? They speak so authoritatively about the "truth" they have. Well, whatever they say, you can expect people to wise up and leave. Either armageddon is gonna happen or it's not. Either millions now living will never die or not. The truth will come out eventually and this will be another stupid end time religion that eventually died out of existence.

  It is no picnic, being a Witness. Why bother with the most boring, restrictive, stubborn, assinine religion you can find?

  I don't know what is going on with my posts today.... sorry about that above, the post I tried to send got messed up and I thought I was pasting in the right one... anyway

  What I was gonna say is I'm sorry to Art in Me -that's a horrible story. I hope you find peace and can heal. Do whatever you need to do to heal.

  Also I think what ese is trying to say with "let it go" is equivalent to STOP POSTING ANTI-JW STUFF ON THIS BOARD. ese, you can't stop this. Nothing you do can stop people from leaving the JWs and doing what they need to do to protect themselves from this group. And the JWs are relentlessly attacking other religions in their literature, why don't they "let it go"? Why don't they leave their people alone instead of constantly badgering them to "do more". Why don't they leave them alone and "let it go". .

  Gopher, yeah, that's true.

  I was looking at it from a voting rights standpoint, thinking they maybe had changed it because they didn't want to get sued for illegally disenfranchising anyone. People have fought and died for the right to vote and that could become a real problem for a religious group to deny their people the right to vote, so my point was, are they ducking out of the way of potential legal trouble for it?

  I see they will have trouble with other policies, like the child molestation issue.

  I'm just trying to figure out what might have motivated that policy change. It's probably not important, it's just one more thing that proves they aren't really getting their ideas from God, like they claim.
