I love that bart simpson reference. forgot about that one.
I used to pray sometimes, and only when I was having trouble with some big problem. The not praying routinely made me feel guilty because all JWs are supposed to pray several times a day! And after awhile, I believed the JW b.s. that I wasn't good enough for god to want to hear my prayers.
Praying had always felt forced and unnatural. I don't see the point really and I never felt that my prayers were answered. If I get struck by lightning now, I'll know I was wrong about that one!

Its about the enablers, not the abuse It's about the coverups not the crime
by avishai inthis was a phrase spoken by a woman on abc news tonight, re: the catholic sex abuse scandal.
i love this phrase, especially when applied to the jw's and their spokesmen's regular denials that they had anything to do with the abuse.
no, they did'nt order their members to molest children.

We really need legislation to force anyone who learns of abuse to report it.

Phone / Email Relationships
by Nosferatu inokay, my turn!.
so, you met this hottie online, and got her email address.
you're thinking, "wow!

Nosferatu, maybe the next time will go better? It's not easy meeting people period, so I guess one way is as good as any other. It's really hard to know what kind of person they are from emails though because lots of times you have more time to think about your writing as opposed to conversation... it took me 3 hours to think of this response! hehehe.
At least talk on the phone first to see if you can even carry on conversation with the person... You could try the Young People Ask advice - find out how if she really loves Jehovah, then meet up in groups, like at the zoo or something like that. After you have known her about a year, then you can kiss her, after you are engaged... you know the rest - it couldn't go worse than that!

but the most important is that she's afraid that once I lose the weight I'll become more attractive to men and I'll meet someone and I won't come back to the "truth"!?!?!?
My mom always has done that same type of thing to me. She monitors my clothes (not too sexy) and weekend activities and friends and is always way too suspicious, hates it when I lose too much weight, because that's when I'm looking my best, and always tries to fatten me up. She would prefer I stay single because she knows I have NO interest in anybody at her KH, and never have.
Well, your mom can't stop you from doing what you need to do, so don't worry about it. She'll never back you up. Although I understand her worries about the surgery, etc.
Good Luck with all of that!

Most Popular JW Jobs???
by Funchback inwhat are some of the more popular jobs jws seem to flock to in your opinion?
personally, the latest trend in my area is school bus driver as well as school bus monitor.
i can think of six jws who drive school buses and two who are monitors.

I see flower's point, but I don't think anyone meant to put anyone down. It's just that, in today's economy it's really unrealistic to assume you can get by with some of the jobs the JWs are still putting positive emphasis on.
About a year ago I went to a service meeting and an elder, his wife and daughter were doing a demonstration about what kind of career the daughter should choose, college, pioneering, etc. This elder is better off financially than most everyone in that cong. as an engineer, and I think a 2nd generation JW (obviously WITH a college degree), and here they are encouraging their daughter in this demonstration to go into a cleaning job. As if they would really do that! I'm sure they don't really want that for their daughter.
It's sad that lots of people would actually follow that misguided advice and in this economy they are just setting themselves up for a lifetime of serious money problems. It is a problem when lots of people in the congregation have these types of jobs, whether bus driver or cleaning, because these jobs are given a kind of status in the congregation as being very good to have, and kids don't really know what they are up against financially if they actually make this choice. It may work ok for some, but it's not good to have passed up an opportunity for further education or a fulfilling career and then after it's too late, to realize that was a mistake.

Calling on all of you for support and prayers or energy for me!
by Sunnygal41 inhi, everyone.................well, the shite has finally hit the fan...........i'm meeting with the superintendent, head of personnel and my boss today at 1:00 over the "comment/incident" of february 25, 2004. i will have union representation with me........my union steward and the president of the union.
the comment was personally inappropriate and i'm sorry it ever came out of my mouth.
the only defense i have is that i was angry at the time and stressed with some heavy personal stuff.

Good luck with all this, but you probably shouldn't worry too much, probably just a warning and then just having to be careful for awhile. Let us know how you're doing.

IMHO - sounds like they are needing to train the "flock" on how to correctly treat their disfellowshipped family, which indicates they are aware that possibly a growing number are not cutting off their family the way they "should".
