I Live For This Stuff !!!
you're crazy!
Thanks ohiocowboy, I'm sure he'll be alright as long as he's better by Christmas, otherwise we'll have to stay home :(
Here in Chicago we have no snow, just a lot of grey....actually the cold would be a little more tolerable if the sun would atleast shine.
Brooke:
Wisconsin is lots of fun, I grew up there actually I skied Rib Mountain when I was 8....and yes, it's amazing how warm 15 feels after surviving 0.....

For those of us with active JW parents
by JustTickledPink inthere seem to a commonality around here about active jw parents shunning us.. my question is: if your parents weren't a jw, do you think they would be normal, act kindly, be a real parent to you?
or would they still be cold and callused towards you, controlling, etc.
my thought is this, so many times i used to think i wish my mom wasn't a jw because then i thought she would be this wonderful caring mother that i could go to lunch with, share shopping days with, recipes, and we'd be close.

After all, it makes them somewhat of a celebrity in their congregations, doesn't it? They are told over and over they are doing the right thing. There is nothing so powerful as the martyr complex.
Boy does that say it all about my mother.....she's always made herself a victim all of her life. I'm sure when she goes to the Hall she gets from other's "poor sister T....how are you holding up with a DF'd daughter, we admire you for your strength and endurance....."
I do believe we would still be close if she was not a JW, but she has a tendency to control, so my independence may not be to her liking even if I am a 36 year old woman married w/children. -

Online Music MP3 Purchase Services - which is best?
by confusedjw indoes anyone here use itunes, emusic, walmart.com etc?
i tried to use it and it was too confusing to actually get an mp3 from the free download or the pepsi free music download this summer - so i was not overly surprised when i registered, downloaded the software and still couldn't get the darn thing to work.
no support either when you call.. so back to the question - do you use a mp3 purchase service and do you recommend one?.

Looking for my Japanese mother
by Billygoat ini've posted about this story in the past, but i've decided to do it again.
i posted a thread last year with my full name on it and just the other day, realized, when i google myself, that thread comes up.
i felt like dad had my step-mom and the twin boys had each other.

Who here still finds it hard to celebrate Christmas?
by dh ini was raised a jw and as i've probably said before, i left when i was around 18... i'll be 27 in a few days, and as i get older realise how i do not really know how to celebrate anything.
being raised a jw we never had xmas or birthdays (or any celebration), and since none of the friends i had when i left the jw's were christian either, i have to this day never celebrated it... i am not christian and will openly admit that i couldn't care less about the religious side of christmas, but what i see around me, everywhere in the world are people who aren't really christian either, celebrating christmas, either for kids or friends or whatever, but i've never done that or had anyone around me to do that with... people look forward to this time of year so much, they buzz and rush around like it's a real event, and to this day i've never been able to feel that way.
most of my christmas/birthdays since leaving jw's have been spent by myself, completely devoid of celebration, i want to get into that feel good spirit, but i don't know how, and if i try to fake it, i know it is fake.

But as time went by I began to make my own traditions and I cherish the Holidays for what they mean to me.
I agree. I don't practice as a Christian and with my husband being Jewish we belong to a temple and are raising our son Jewish. My daughter on the other hand wants to go all out at Christmas (her father still a JW).....my husband brother's wife is Christian so they do both. It's not really celebrated from a religeous standpoint, it's just a great time for everyone to get together as familty in the spirit of the season. It's comfortable for me from this aspect. I don't have a tree or decorations but we live in a condo and not a lot of room for a tree, I promised my daughter that next year we would decorate with more Christmas decorations.
You kind of just have to make your own traditions make the holiday your own and don't try to copy nor expect to have the same experience as everyone else.

Have a Good Friday
by Brownboy ina good lesson for all:.
learn to put away all badness of this old world, and make the necessary changes to prepare for the kingdom of god.
pay back caesar's things to caesar, but god's things to god, especially god, because he owns all things, and will ask for an accounting from everyone.

I would like everyone to know that most Christians and non Christians in the world consider Jehovah's Witnesses to be cult members. You people blindly follow what you're told. You're given unbelievably messed up versions of the bible and told things that are simply unbelievable. Being a Christian is great! I am one! But you guys should research the bible (not just their version) and see for yourself. What you're being told is a load of crap!
well duh....who did you think you were talking too.....direct that to Mr Brownboy........
