La Amistad
Cinque speaking of his ancestors
"I will call into the past from back to the beginning of time and beg them to come and help me at the judgment. I will reach back and draw them into me, and they must come, for at the moment I am the whole reason they have existed at all."

to me this is such a profound statement from a highly charged awesome movie, needless to say the soundtrack scored by the awesome John Williams!!!
with other threads recently on the board it got me thinking, there are so many profound and powerful lines in movies, do any of you have any that really hot home?

i understand what you're saying flower.
i think the reason people say 'african americans' is because africa is the continent where black people come from originally.
most of the people i come across, when referring to white americans refer to them as 'european americans' (by continent, not by country)
asian americans, etc
i think it is to do with the continents.
(edited to make you go hmmmmmm)

ethnic means race, right? not nationality, like white europeans are the same as white british, white irish, white americans, white aussies and kiwi's are all white, whatever you call it, aryan. black african black jamaican, black whatever are black, regardless of where they come from.
a person who is all white from 1 country is still the same ethnicity as if they were all white from 10 countries, aren't they? or am i confusing things? not remembering what country your ancestors come from doesn't mean you are not part of that ethnic group and it doesn't make you part of another... and american is not an ethnic background, is it? i dunno.
just trying to be clear on what you mean by 'ethnic background'
