Wow! The expression "take a look in the mirror" comes to mind...

there are people who find "refreshment" in Jehovah's congregation and peace and love and unity, not perfect of course, but free of worries that the unbelieving world generally have.

Well, if the refreshed and loving attitude you're showcasing here is any indication of what I would find in "Jehovah's congregation," I will keep a very safe distance, thank you much. :-)

i am almost always a very tolerant, easygoing person, but there is this one aspect of my personality that has caused us a certain amount of tension.

Yes, that site is really a great resource. I also found Stephen Jay Gould's books in the series that contains Ever Since Darwin and The Panda's Thumb to be very enlightening.

You make quite an assumption about me. Remember that I used to be a Witness. I was heart-and-soul bent on proving that evolution was wrong. I've considered plenty of pro-creation literature from both Witnesses and non-Witnesses. The fact of the matter is that the evidence for evolution is simply overwhelming. I would go so far as to say that, if you're anything like I was, you probably cannot even begin to imagine how much evidence there is. I can guarantee that if you dig into it, your jaw will drop many, many times.

It is interesting to see the current predicament of the WT Society.

They are backed into a corner by 100 years of their own words. Still they cannot think to do anything but scorn anyone who disagrees with them. And yet, in the age of information, this will only drive people further away as they do their own research.

So what is a high-control group to do? They have a choice. They can go down kicking and screaming, or they can bring their teachings in line (or at least, in closer accord) with reality. However, their pride and myopia make the latter very difficult for them to do. Like the last man in "Ten Angry Men," they are powerless to do anything but keep repeating the old lies, while a greater and greater crowd look on in embarassment. I'm struck by the image of a bitter old man, stabbing his finger at anyone who disagrees with him. "Apostate! Apostate!" he cries in his hoarse and cracking voice. "How dare you contradict me!" "Because you're wrong, old man," a growing crowd says.

It will be interesting to see whether they choose oblivion or change. I have my money on oblivion.

One good thing about this board is that words are never truly wasted. There are countless lurkers watching this dialog unfold. This thread currently has over 600 views. Ironically, JW apologists often become perfect foils to show JW reasoning its most extreme - some might say, its purist - form, and how it contrasts with healthy positions. Such dialogs become conversation-teaching for the watchers. Therefore, conversations such as these often have far greater value to the lurkers than to the direct participants.

I'm not addressing people I just met on the street, but generally speaking APOSTATE JUDAS-LIKE AND PHARISAICAL HERETICAL SNAKES !!!

I would suggest that you know the people on this board to exactly the same degree that you know people on the street. You don't know me, for example, yet somehow you feel comfortable hurling huge strings of pejoratives around. No one benefits from this.

this happens to be a something that i feel is not only possible, but 100% proven beyond all doubt.
