I don't support the war. I don't believe this war is what it is touted to be ... "Supporting American Freedom", I believe that is a crock of bull#$*! While I pity those who were preyed upon and sold a bill of goods, joining the military to try to advance themselves (the majority being young folks from poor circumstances who hope to improve their situation by first commiting to some military duty) ... many of those there are there because they wanted to be and have bought in to the propaganda being pushed upon them, such as they are performing some glorious duty comparable to WWII veterans.
As far as the media, well ... the majority of the media are controlled by the same conservative right wing corporate conglomerates that fund our politicians ... that is why most Americans are so misled. They will gladly sit by and lap up the bland pap served up to them by their president and his cronies. After all, our government doesn't lie to its people, right?
Hmmm...let's think about that ... Iran-Contra, Watergate, Vietnam, Enron, Lewinsky, Cuba, umm .... and it is the newspapers that are lying to us? they are our culprits, eh?
As to your question of citizenship ... while yes you are a *citizen* of where you are born...look to history to answer your question. With the exception of African Americans who were kidnapped and brought here against their will (another fine example of our heritage) ... immigrants and their first generation offspring typically do retain some level of allegiance to their country of origin ... and retain ties as well. Whether Irish, Italian, German, British in earlier years ... or Asian cultures later on, allegiance and commitment to the relatives that remain, as well as language, religious faith, etc. remains. Many come here to escape the persecution of a recently installed government or such and long to return to their homelands. Even if they are happy and settled here, to look across the waters and seeing they former countrymen being persecuted, bombed, occupied and such can stir up strong emotions. Wait until it happens to us or our offspring in generations to come. If history teaches us nothing else, it teaches us that all governments and ruling societies are ultimately ephemeral.
Look, I don't support terroristic acts by anyone. Not the so called insurgents. Not Americans or others attempting to impose their political views and approaches on other countries through an illegal war, especially when we've all been lied to about the real motivation that led us there.
