My Mom died yesterday
by skeptic1914 inmy mom passed away yesterday.
she was a die-hard jw.
i tried to explain why i couldn't accept certain teachings but rather than rationally consider what i had to say she chose to believe i was just "confused".

My JW sister wants her mom and siblings to pay for HER retirement!
by Who are you? inkind of long...thanks in advance for letting me vent!.
my sister has been a jw since 1974. she's been waiting for the end of this "system of things" since the fall of 1975. she never went to college.
she has had probably 80 or more jobs since 1974. she has no retirement savings.

Seriously, do you feel your sister might be desperate enough to hurt your mother in any way? Maybe you should take charge right away !!

What did you turn to first in WT?
by JWdaughter infor me it was always questions from readers.
i think i was a faithful skeptic for many years.
i kept wanting to see something controversial that they addressed directly and honestly.

"You'll never even get to finish school in this System of Things....."
by WingCommander inthis statement was often echeod to me during my formative years.
i remember my very first day of elementary school (stateside) at the age of 4. my parents were flustered because they couldn't believe they actually had to start their only child into public school to begin with; after all, the end was right around the corner!
this was 1984, the year the first apple mac was introduced, 80's music was loud and in your face, the delorean was cool, and miami vice was just in production.

Being raised in the Borg from the age of 9 the only things I had to look forward to was Bethel, Full time Pioneering, or Gilead(training to be a missionary). I eventually left the borg at 18, but with no focus. No parental guide to steer me , being that I DAed myself, the family unit wasn't ever to be the same again. Thanks to the Lord,I landed in a civil service job which I recently was able to retire from at a young age, and my focus in life is becoming much clearer. On occasions I visit my parents, who still desire my return to the Borg, but appear in the last few years to accept the choice I made.I was mad at them and with myself for a long time. But you know what, I have the freedom to do what I want in this life!! I'm checking into some college courses . Still haven't a clue of "what I want to be when I grow up "(lol) but it'll be fun finding out.I applaud those who have the will to stick it out for there are many blessings/rewards once you achieve your goal. God Bless all on this board.

OK now, I'm really an apostate
by dawg inso, i go to my jw uncle's funeral for obvious reasons!
after the funeral my family invites me to dinner, something we haven't done for some time (probably 8 years or so) as i'm considered disassociated not disfellowshipped.
i guess this is allowed per the new jw policy but since that crap changes from time to time i'm not sure.

Heyyyy dawgggggg, Right on!! I left over 30 years ago and up till a few years ago was still affected by the Borg.I try to keep some communications with my parents, I doing everything I can , nothing on there end.Been married a few years and was told if I come back in the bOrg they would have a better relationship with my wife. Wifey(Catholic) says if that is the only way they see it , then keep the relationship the way it is now!!I myself too am tired of the mind games. When it seems they have you feeling somewhat closer to them then boom! no contact for a while.I've accepted their magazines thinking by just doing that it would keep communications open. I am now done with that! Accept me for who I am or not at all.I love my parents for all they done for me, but I'll be damned if I have to be told to live my life according to WT dictates to have a normal relationship with them. At one time I was almost back in,thank God I didn't make that mistake.I have to say this board has helped much in my life. Thanks for hearing me out. Love you all and may you have peace. Again Dawg, I with you all the way buddy .

Hey Ninja, I recently secure the 1989 WTs in the blue binder. Yep the Jan.1st is there. Are you sure if I make a copy of the magazine there wouldn't be any doubt. As rare as that issue appears I think I would hate to part with it.

The Golden Age (request)
by AlphaOmega inhello all,.
i have searched everywhere that i can think of, but i can't track down any "golden ages" between 1925 and 1930. i know that pdfs exist for 1920 - 1924.. it seems that there were many many useful bits and pieces in the 1926 editions.. does anyone have any that they are willing to post a link for?.
