as you can see by the picture she is being interviewed on a public street. No doubt someone street witnessing just gave it to her... I'm sure she loved having that sent all over.. Over zealous JWs..

Getting drunk a sin?
by Coop Man ini have a pretty interesting perspective on this.....especially since i once had all of my privledges removed because i had admitted to an elder that i was hungover..... the scriptures state that drunkards will not inherit gods' kingdom, nor will gluttons.... gluttony is the practice of over-eating, much the same is being a drunkard is one who is continuously drunk.
so, in my feeble mind, getting drunk "once-in-a-while" is not a sin, just the same as overeating at mcdonalds or at grandma's house is not a sin.. am i incorrect in my reasoning?.
thanks to all participants.

I think that drinking and many times more than a little WAS more COMMON than anyone wanted to admit in the congregations. We always through the years had friends who you know you could comfortably have more than a few drinks with. It is one of those things that no one admits to the other we had a little too much to drink and you go to the hall the next day no matter how tired you are or feeling a little under the weather.. (actually hangover is not in my personally vocabulary.. THANKFULLY)
Its funny how some can over look it, yet do one other little thing condemned the same in the bible and you are oh my.. better go report yourself to the elders..
I so love that I can go home and have a drink if I feel like it.. have several drinks if I feel like it.. and I don't have to worry about people counting the drinks or telling others that I have a drinking problem when they themselves should be looking in the mirror...
Now I can have a drink with friends, enjoy, no one thinks I am having too much and no one thinks about gossiping about it the next day either..
and yes.. I agree.. gluttony is the same as drunkeness.. but how many people do you see that get called in for over eating..
I remember one time at friends home, this other friend who is the largest man I personally have ever met, finished off the spaghetti they were serving by putting all that was in the pan on his plate even though a couple of the kids had yet to get any.. that is gluttony.. my son (who didn't get any, never forgot that as well.. the sister had to make him a sandwich)

Serving alcohol when a recovering alcoholic is present
by unbeliever ini don't want to piss anybody off with this post so please don't get offended.
my family always goes all out for thanksgiving and x-mas.
part of that going all out means lots of booze.

Its a hard call. On the one hand it is not your aunts home and so it really wasn't her place to insist on this, however family supporting someone trying not to drink can really be something too. When I have had people around who are no longer able to drink, it is not that I have not had alcohol around, but I tend to make it slightly more low key. I also make sure there is plenty of similar non alcoholic drinks around so that the person not drinking has something to enjoy in his or her hand.

How many people did you personally bring into the truth?
by yxl1 inare they still witnesses?
do you feel personally responsible?
have you made any attempt to correct their/your mistake?.

You know what I was thinking regarding this topic.... when I was a JW I hated the guilt that went with it.. NEVER doing enough no matter what.. . and when I left, it was so refreshing not to have it.. not to feel guilty about coming home from work and staying in on a meeting night.... not getting up for service.. etc.. I love not feeling bad about NOT being a good little JW..
but now this point of guilt if we did bring someone into the WTS.. as having been a JW.. does the guilt really ever end?? or are we just programmed to having it in our lives forever??

I know I wish I had a different name. People get me mixed up with sens all the time, but I didn't know there was a sens when I signed up for sns...
I wish I could change it to SweetnSassy..
I wouldn't want (for me) a name that just shows I am no longer a JW.. because although I am trying to build my life beyond being one, I'd like to think I am focusing on more than just being an exJW... Reminds me of when you get divorced and the form says Single, Married, Divorced. Are you divorced forever if you never get remarrried? I fill out the forum Single if I am divorced because to be labeled Divorced forever sucks.. and I dont' want to label myself exJW forever either..

Does it not compute at all that what you did (are doing) is feeling good for you, but really sucks for others?
I don't know that that is really all that fair. It wasn't like anyone who did teach someone about being a JW did so to blind them and ruin their life. We didn't. If you taught someone something at the time, it was because one wanted to help them. Typically if we brought someone into the 'truth' they also are aware then if we leave, so thereby we also give them the example that we don't believe it any more. Perhaps giving them reason to wonder. Its like that thread with all the arguments about if the WT is to blame, I think there is more guilt for us to deal with if we raised our children from infancy to be blind and want to help them get out. I know my children are messed up between their crappy dad and being raised as JWs... Fortunately when they have children the chain is broken and no more new JWs in the family.

Oh -- I had Bible studies, but nobody ever converted. I guess I'm not much of a marketer.
I guess if we ever have a product to sell.. we won't ask you to market it for us then Gopher....
(JUST KIDDING)... speaking as one who couldn't sell a pair of shoes....

Did a 'major-event' cause you to join/leave JW?s?
by cyberguy init seems to me, many people become jw?s after a major event in their lives.
perhaps it is the death of a loved-one, such as a father, mother, child, wife, or husband.
on the other hand, it?s also my observation that a "major-event" often causes an active jw to rethink what they are doing with their life, whether they are really in the "truth," as jw?s call it.

I would say it was a major event. Gettting a divorce and he was blackmailing me with the elders. So I took the power away from him.. never went back.
