This weeks meeting remarks

just come here to vent a bit.

last night we had one of those meeting where i had a hard time keeping my eyes from rolling.

i tell you, sometimes i think they have a mind of their own, my eyes that is.

human organizations that are prone to rigidity and unreasonableness. Because of pride, men often refuse to adapt to changing needs and circumstances. Such rigidity has bankrupted corporations and even toppled governments. (Proverbs 16:18) How happy we can be that neither Jehovah nor his organization is anything like that!

It sounds like the WTS is justifying the recent changes in the organization.

It is interesting that they liken the organization to Ezekiel's chariot that has "...giant wheels were four-sided and full of eyes so that they could see everywhere." That sounds rather ominous - like something out of an Orwell book. Eyes that look everywhere. Surveillance at its finest.

Good question. If it is 'real', how did somebody liberate the telegram from "Hitler Government Berlin"?

Was this a telegram that wasn't sent? They didn't have photocopiers back then...how did this telegram see the light of day?

Actually, you could probably claim that the WTS is fulfilling prophecy. They have built their tower so high that it is hard for them to manage and control - they need to divide and conquer their followers to maintain authority. The WTS is Nimrod.

jwleaks: Does that also apply to the 'appointment' of the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" in 1919 by Jesus and Jehovah. As far as I am aware there is no evidence or testimony to support this claim. The Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses even today make the claim that this occurred yet have never produced a single eye-witness.
Was it an "invisible appointment" seen only in the the mind of those that want to believe? That's not evidence.
Today Jehovah's Witnesses around the world claim that this has happened in 1919. But that is mere hearsay.

The Watchtower Society bought their printing presses in 1919. Up until that point, the printing was done by 'outside' printing companies. The only thing that happened in 1919 is that the WTS established themselves as a profit making machine in its own right.

kairos: I remember in my area we would have two distinct convention dates per year then they changed it to 3 or 4 with of course smaller amounts of people at each one. By doing this and saying that some would be assigned to other areas altogether there was no way of telling how few were still going.

Not only that, but smaller groups mean more control. Smaller assemblies mean that there is less chance of those groups communicating with each other about 'apostate' matters.

Breaking down large groups into smaller, more manageable ones, is a tactic that has met with much success in the past. Rutherford found that out when he went to Germany way back prior to WW2 and tried out that method of control. Re-structuring and re-branding is not new to the WTS.

A noble feat, you may think. And how wonderful that Jehovah’s message can reach the far ends of the world – in so many languages!

However, over the years I have learned that for every move the WTS makes in the public realm, there is an unrelated reason to explain why the doctrine or rules changed. The reason for the overt behavior is never what it seems.

The translation of languages has another purpose besides spreading the message. The more languages used to recruit members, the more insulated those language groups are from ‘apostate’ material. What language translation is actually doing – under the guise of creating unity – is dividing the JW community from within.

Divide and conquer. Language translation is one of the tools being employed by the WTS to maintain control of its membership. The members have reduced communication within the larger JW group, and all communication comes from the WTS. Offering ‘the message’ in various languages sidesteps the ‘apostate material’ issue for new recruits.

The language promotion being done by the WTS is aimed at creating small groups that get their information only from the WTS. These small language groups are not only wired directly into the ‘mother’ but, they are essentially isolated from the larger JW community and by extension, they are insulated from ‘apostate’ influence.

The boast of language translation by JW..org is actually a boast of control by the WTS. The more languages being translated and printed in WTS literature, the more isolated groups you have within the larger JW group. Many small groups (especially when they cannot communicate with each other) are easier to handle than one large group. And that concept is particularly applicable when it comes to revolt and revolution. Breaking down the communication within a group assures that those in power can control uprisings.

The Watchtower Society is a modern day Tower of Babel. ‘Jehovah’ knows how to maintain control –divide the people into small groups that cannot speak to each other. It seems like the GB really have read their bible, after all.

fiddler: If Watchtower is being funded in any way to carry out their deceptive agenda I hope it stops when revelations like this come out.

The Watchtower's extensive translation services and the spread of literature in various languages, is not financially profitable for them unless they receive outside funding for literacy, language revitalization, etc. I think that the WTS has had their hand in getting funding for many years now under the guise of literacy promotion. I have yet to find the evidence of government/agency literacy funding, but it would not surprise me.

Revitalizing cultures through indigenous language is a noble thing but what Watchtower is doing is every bit as destructive as the colonial version.

Dr. B-L identifies the WTS' motive for language revitalization as being purely utilitarian in nature - to gain converts (apparently). It was noted in her research that the indigenous Chontal language is actually being changed in structure by the JW translators, such that it often resembles the Spanish structure/syntax rather than follow the structure of Chontal. So, what is happening with the WTS' project is that the indigenous language is being changed - the language is undergoing a shift in structure as the result of it being used by the JW community.

What I found critical in Dr. B-L's research is that she identifies the 'voice' of Chontal speakers, being expressed by the JW community, is the voice of the Watchtower Society. It is not so much language 'revitalization', in that sense, but rather, language appropriation.

there will be no awakening. Instead of that the Internet will contribute to further future growth

IKH, you are probably right. Demographics don't change much.

There will always be those people who only have the intellectual capacity to find and click on the WTS approved website. There will always be those people who believe that any other information comes from that guy who dresses in red underwear and carries a fork.

As far as growth goes, I do not believe in the numbers that are put out by the WTS. They lie about everything else so I have no reason to trust anything that comes from them. Numbers are just numbers...they are meaningless and easily manipulated.
And, if this recent website presence does increase numbers...well, then the 'numbers' will be solidly grounded in those of lower intellectual ability. I propose that this internet presence will "separate the wheat from the chaff" - the smart ones will leave or not join and the visible rank and file JW community will be made up of solely lower intellect persons. And, in that sweep for new members, the net will drag in people who 1) are dissatisfied with the 'system' (government) 2) don't want to do military service 3) like to pet lions 4) believe that they are better than anyone else, that they are 'special'.

CrazyGuy: Its been stated here by members that when one of their relatives need a transfusion Cows blood called Hemopure is recommended by the HLC.

Yes, the HLC was recommending Hemopure long before the FDA recommended it. The HLC recommended JWs for clinical trials in Hemopure. The JWs were/are used to test artificial blood.
