Hi All! I am trying to gather info. on why people leave the WT.
I have read many personal stories but thought it would be easier to just post the question:
If you can remember, what was the very first thing
(person, doctrine, fact, action etc)that got you to thinking you really weren't in the 'truth'?

What happened to the fish in the great flood?
by Beans innow if the world was covered in water was it salt water or fresh water and how did all the fish survive who were not adapted to the other type of water?

I believe the Word of God because it's true not because I choose it over science :) Science backs it up all the way :) Will talk later!

We're not wrong, right?.............
by flower insuddenly i am hit with this overwhelming feeling that we are wrong and that there are logical explanations for all of the things that dont make sense.
aaaah.
this is awful.

I personally can say I know we are not wrong! JW beliefs for the most part are not in the BIBLE. If you would like some info to back you up e-mail me!
I am personally now a christian-- don't let JWs predjudiced ideas of 'christendom' taint your mind. It's not anything like they said it is. I left through study of the Bible (and later, science, archeology, philosophy etc).
An interesting thought occured to me when I left which is not the reason for my leaving but is amusing/comforting sort of:
Well, JWs don't believe in a hell so even if they are right it doesn't mean anything 'cause I won't be concious to know :)

Just My Story
by malian ini would like to post my personal experience here because i can't tell anyone else.
i met my boyfriend when i was 15--i am 20 now.
we couldn't help falling in love, and we both made extreme sacrifices to be together.

Hi Malian!
Be encouraged that someday some of the truth about JWs you tried to share with him may still win out. In my 'story' I met my boyfriend (now husband :) ) when I was 15 too. Except I was the JW trying to convert my boyfriend. He was a very loving Christian that got kinda suckered by me because I told him I was a christian-- I was not- I was JW. Well, he lovingly shared scripture and facts with me and I did see the truth- JWs were not it. So now I am 22, love God, am married to the most terrific man on earth, and have a wonderful baby boy. No matter how stubborn a JW looks on the outside they are still nagged by the truth on the inside when people take time to share it.
E-mail me sometime :)
Love,

adam & eve
by gotcha indoes anyone here take the creation story literally?
if yes, did u do ample research and think carefully but still believe in it?
if u don't think that the story should be taken as literal, what is your reading of it and do u still believe in the bible as the inspired word of god?...thanks in advance..

Are you interested in opinions or proof?
Yes, I believe the Biblical account is literal and lets go to a contreversial length and say I even believe the 6 creation days are literal. Yes, I have done much research on the scientific proof for creationism and the evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of God creating the heavens and the Earth. My husband was a strict atheist before examining the scientific proofs (&historical, archeological, philisophical, etc...) for the Bible and Christianity (Because of his research is a christian now). If the Bible is scientifically likely to have been literal in regards to creation as a whole then it is most likely literal in the details including Adam & Eve. -

Well, a worldwide flood as the Bible and many other cultures records is very likely scientificly. I won't go into the long of it now but can send info to the interested. Some fish lived and some fish died-- This is recorded in archeology as we find fish fossils on the tops of every major mountain range in the world. How did they get up there without a worldwide flood? Fly? :)

Vacillating: Cannot trust the WISHY WASHY
by Adonai438 init is a serious matter to represent god and christ in one way, then find that our understanding of the major teachings and fundamental doctrines of the scriptures was in error, and then after that, to go back to the very doctrines that, by years of study, we had thoroughly determined to be in error.
christians cannot be vacillating - 'wishy-washy' - about such fundamental teachings.
what confidence can one put in the sincerity or judgement of such persons?

funny quote on false prophecy!
by Adonai438 infunny wathctower quote on their false prophecies:.
further, the widely circulated booklet millions now living will never die presented the view that in 1925, god's purposes regarding the restoring of the earth to paradise and the resurrecting of the faithful ones of old would begin to be fulfilled.
... the year 1925 came to its conclusion, but the end was not yet!

The year 1925 came to its conclusion, but the end was not yet! Ever since the 1870's, Bible Students had been serving with a date in mind - first 1914, then 1925. Now they realized that they must serve for as long as Jehovah wishes. (The Watchtower; 11/1/1993; pp. 12)

Actually- just a bit of info on the Divine name for ya'll:
Jehovah is the one translation of God's name we know for sure is not the correct one :)
Why? Because the Masoratic text includes it--
Jews take the commandment to not take the name of the Lord in vain so seriously that they prefer not to say it at all. Kind of superstitious- they still won't say it today. They actually insert different vowel points into the tetragrammaton when writing it so that when they read the (scrolls)Old Testament they don't say it by accident.
That is how the word Jehovah appears in the Masoratic:
The tetragramaton is 'YHWH' - God's name +
The scribes always inserted the vowel points from either Elohim or Adonai or another of God's titles.
So the fact that the Masoratic text says Jehovah with the fact that the Jews would never write the divine name proves that Jehovah is an innacurate translation. I can document this if neccessary but just gave a brief summary on it here. Plus archeology has found very ancient artifacts with Yahweh written on it so this is strong evidence that this was how it originally was.
So for a religion that claims they are the truth based on the thinking that they are the only ones using God's name this is bad news.
They know and admit that Yahweh is more accurate but say it's not a big deal.
So which is it?
Big deal= only true religion or No big deal=when the translation proves inaccurate?
I agree with Kenneson - this is just some food for thought :)
