It looks bad.
The people on board the sub are in very serious trouble.
They'll probably run out of air and die, barring some kind of miracle rescue.
any opinions are just speculation, but my guess, being morbid, is that there was not a hull breach and implosion (although that would have been the most merciful fate for them), but instead the amateur level of building this thing meant that it lost power and communication and got itself tangled in the titanic's wreckage or is sitting on the actual seabed with no way to release ballast to resurface.
terrifying.
what's your gut feeling?

first off, i really like robert eggers and think he's a great film maker.
i really like his two previous films - the witch (2015) and the lighthouse (2019).. i saw the northman (2022) for the first time yesterday.
it's a revenge/'western' story about a viking prince who avenges the death of his father, by his uncle.

What didn't work for me was the accents that the different characters speak in. His two previous films were set in 1635 and 1890 respectively, and so the English dialects used in both were well-known, adding authenticity. But The Northman is set in the year 900 AD, during which Old Norse would have been spoken. Eggers could have gone all-in and had the characters speaking Old Norse the whole time, but for a 2 hour-plus film it would have been very difficult. Or he could have had them speaking English with standard American or British accents but that might have sounded strange. So, he chose a third way, so you have Amleth (Stellan Skarsgaard) speaking to Olga (Anya Taylor-Joy). Amleth speaks English with an Old Norse type accent, and Olga speaks with a Russian-sounding accent because the character is a Slav. It just doesn't work all that well for me, but no option would have been easy here, as explained above.
Still, gotta love Fjolnir's accent, played by Claes Bang. I guess Claes does a reasonable stab of an Old Norse accent, but at some point he must have thought to himself, 'I'm a Dane, my first language is descended from Old Norse anyway ... so screw it, I may as well say my lines with a Danish accent'. And you can't blame him, lol.
Yeah, so the mish-mash of accents distracted from the film rather than enhanced it, at least for me anyway.
The costumes and settings were very well done - knowing Robert Eggers, he probably did his research on Viking clothing, weapons, and houses.
The story was ok, the plot kinda just went along. TBH, there are better revenge films out there - The Nightingale (2018) being one such. But you do get to see Anya Taylor-Joy naked.
So, yeah, it's an ok film.

I sometimes wonder if he realises what a nasty person he is and revels in it, or if he genuinely thinks he’s a good guy - probably the latter.
As far as I can work out, the guy has zero self-awareness.

TBH, the lyrics to Lloyd's song are like a send-up of anti-theists such as Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins.
Roy Devans probably thinks he's being clever and edgy, but he's really not.
All the points he raised in his lyrics have already been said by more intelligent, educated, and articulate people.

God is watching over us
He should beg for what he did
How can you say that he helped you out today
While he was killing 14,000 kids
^^^ What's the 'killing 14,000 kids' a reference to? The Watchtower's paedo and no blood policies, or something from the Old Testament?

Ugh, so Lloyd can strum a guitar and sing a bit.
What this means is he won't set the world on fire, but he will be able to do some busking in streets and shopping malls, with passers-by dropping him a few coins.
Glad to see he's found his level
canada has universal healthcare.
the consensus is that america never will.
can anyone explain why, please?
The NHS is part of the government, so how can it not be the government's fault? - the government gives taxpayers' money to the NHS, but the government doesn't decide where that money is spent. NHS higher-ups decide that.
So, if your local hospital has three or four Diversity Tsars and Outreach Coordinators but not enough kidney dialysis machines, then that's on the NHS higher-ups. It's their fault.

Hi Jan,
I think you and me are coming at this issue from different perspectives.
Re the NHS and how it's run - no, it's not any UK government's fault. The fault lies with the NHS bigwigs and their often poor financial decisions. So, yeah, the NHS should be run more efficiently, with a special emphasis on sensible spending.
Re the US healthcare system as it currently is, yes, it's bad that someone's house can be repossessed because of hospital bills.
And we already know that large swathes of the US electorate don't want to pay for others' health care bills.
So, what's the solution?
Well, I originally said let each state decide. This would still inconvenience some people - image being dirt-poor and stuck in a conservative state such as Texas. You can't afford much in the way of healthcare and you can't afford to up sticks to somewhere like Cali or New York. So, how about rich people start a healthcare charity that could meet the bills of America's poorest? America's super-rich like nothing more than saying they care for poor people. This would be a great chance for them to show that. Other people - middle-income earners and basic income earners - who also care about the poor could also put money in the pot.
And, obviously, those who don't want to pay for others' healthcare don't have to.
^^^ This could work, couldn't it?

Also the NHS doesn't spend a fortune on pen pushers in offices calculating bills - sorry, but it does.
I worked in the NHS, as a porter.
We used to have a saying: 'too many chiefs, not enough Indians'. I think it's obvious what it means.
The NHS is top-heavy, with too many managers, too many HR staff, too much bureaucracy, and not enough cleaners, porters, healthcare assistants, or kidney dialysis machines.
The NHS also wastes lots of money on shitty, non-jobs such as 'Diversity Coordinators', etc.
Plus the NHS is in hock to trans activists (Stonewall and other groups declare organisations 'trans friendly' - for an annual fee, or course). Its latest advice to staff is not to say 'biologically male/female'. <---- absolutely ridiculous.
Billions of money per year are shoveled into the NHS but it continually pleads poverty.
Conclusion: the NHS is badly run and wasteful of tax-payers' money.
I know whereof I speak in this instance.
won the premiership.. won the fa cup.. won the champions league.. that's the treble baby.
so amazing after we spent 44 years without anything.
no more "noisy neighbours".. now let's do it again, back-to-back, and achieve new heights - more consecutive premierships than anyone has every done before would be enough..
@notsurewheretogo - it's true that City have a huge advantage because of all Sheikh Mansour's money.
But money alone is not enough to guarantee success.
Look at Everton. They've spent loads of money in recent years but they're shit - they only just avoided relegation this season and last season.
Same too, at Man United. For the past ten years they've spent loads of money but have been a shambles up until Erik Ten Hag took over last year.
