You know you're really dim-witted when? (You actually think a defeated President can successfully REFUSE to step down)
by Terry inwhen you're easily convinced about a total impossibility.. such as what?.
such as a defeated president actually being able to refuse.
to step down from office.

Speaking about vote fraud, here's an interesting little video ...

The issue with the OP is that it adds no context to Trump's words.
Yes, taken in isolation, Trump refusing to leave office if he's voted out is very bad.
But the context of this is that there are legitimate concerns that Democrats will use postal votes to commit voting fraud.

Why it's good to discuss politics (but if you don't want to, you don't have to)
by LoveUniHateExams ini was reading through this site the other day and came across several posts by different posters lamenting this site, saying what a shame it has gone from debating jw believers to talking politics and current affairs.. there are a few issues i have with these kind of posts.. first, discussing politics is actually a good thing.
well, in case you haven't noticed, we in the west are going through a culture war.
certain groups of far-leftists are trying - and sometimes succeeding - to shut down free discussion.

What makes this arrest illegal? - it's titled 'illegal' because it was posted by free inhabitant enthusiasts who actually think the young lady in the vid was treated badly.
As it was, the cop stopped the young lady and her boyfriend, asking for a driver's license. The man didn't have one, neither did the girl. The girl claimed she didn't need one because she claimed to be a 'free inhabitant', using some centuries-old Confederate law. The cop wasn't having it and wanted to tow the vehicle.
The girl initially refused to leave the vehicle, then exited the vehicle but refused to comply with the cop (at one point, she even screamed 'rape!', lol).
The cop was pretty patient with her and gave her lots of chances to act like a mature adult.

What are we calling people who believe in equality and live and let live attittude? Is there a box for me? - yes, you're a liberal in the traditional sense.
Problem is, liberals have been hijacked by far-Leftists.
Now I have the term "far-Leftists" to try and decipher - just watch the following vid. I'm sure you'll get the idea of what 'far-Leftist' means ...

There are a few issues I have with these kind of posts.
First, discussing politics is actually a good thing. Why? Well, in case you haven't noticed, we in the West are going through a culture war. Certain groups of far-Leftists are trying - and sometimes succeeding - to shut down free discussion. This is seriously eroding free speech. This site should actually be applauded - I have read and participated in a great many discussions of very difficult topics.
Also, as most of us are ex-JWs, discussing politics and casting votes should be encouraged. You can vote for whichever party in your country and your vote will be equal to anyone else's. This is a beautiful thing. It means schmoes like me and you have a say in whoever will run the country you live in.
Of course, if you are a forum member who doesn't like politics, you don't have to read or comment on political threads.
And one last thing that I think is worth keeping in mind: this site is still a refuge for many people trapped in the org or who are just waking up for the first time.

My Prediction: Trump Wins Big
by minimus ina month ago it might have been questionable.
not now.
after bader’s death and biden’s inability, this shouldn’t be close.

Your research was limited to only approved materials. That is how cults thrive. They limit your information. We see this today in the USA when our POTUS says all of the major news outlets are fake news - not really the same situation.
Watchtower forbids its members from looking at outside resources on pain of separation from friends and family. Trump, for all his faults, does no such thing to the American public.
Everyone can watch different news outlets and media and make their own mind up about current affairs.

I think Trump will win but I'm not sure he'll win 'big'.
It's obviously up to the American people but I'd personally like Trump to be re-elected.
The Democrats are currently f**king crazy, there's no other word for them, lol.

Stealing is obviously wrong and illegal but lopping off fingers is totally barbaric.
That's Iran for you - barbaric.

Languages, Dialects, Accents
by LoveUniHateExams injust though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.

@Phizzy - it's practical but interesting at the same time.
Having hieroglyphs for one consonant and having different ones for two and three consonants doesn't sound practical, but this allows for interesting decorations and works of art.
Having an alphabet is probably more practical, but probably more boring, too!
But, you do get used to it. I read my book quite a lot last year and earlier this year and I got used to it ok.
In my previous post, the bottom hieroglyphs show determinatives, these reinforce the meaning of an Egyptian word.
But, sometimes, a word featuring a two or three consonant hieroglyph will have the second and third consonants reinforced by adding the one consonant hieroglyphs for those sounds.
For example, the word for 'strong' in Egyptian is nkht - normally written as nakht. In hieroglyphs the n sound is a lengthways ripple of water (see one-consonant heiroglyphs) and the kht sound is the branch-like hieroglyph in the two-consonant group. But, to reinforce those second two sounds (kh + t) there is often added the one-consonant hieroglyph kh (the round shape with the lines running horizontally) and the one-consonant hieroglyph t (the small loaf of bread-type shape).
As well as hieroglyphics, ancient Egyptians also wrote on papyrus using a cursive style of writing, called hieratic or demotic. I don't know anything about this, but would love to find a book about it!
Written Egyptian (hieroglyphs or hieratic) is one of the world's oldest systems of writing, in fact, it might be the oldest.
Here's a slate of Narmer, the first accepted Egyptian king. He ruled Egypt nearly 5,000 years ago, so hieroglyphs are at least that old, probably older.
His name appears in hieroglyphics in the square-like palace façade at the top - his Horus name, n'r-mr, or Narmer.
