The Noble Fir
by Oubliette inthe noble fir.
the fir tree stands silently in the corner of our living room: proud, erect, strong.
even unadorned, it is beautiful.

Thank you for that beautiful post. You just discribed my journey too, but more eloquently than I ever could. You really get it. The taste of freedom is so sweet. -

Memories. .. share the earliest or most favorite childhood memory
by MissFit inmy daughter tells me that experts say children tend to have false memories.
apparently their brain tends to fill things in that may not be totally accurate.. i refuse to believe that my favorite and comforting memory might not be true.
so here is to fond memories real or not.. the earliest memory i have is being put in a crib at a preschool.

IThank you to everyone who took the time to share their memories.
I would love to hear more.
I have fond memories of certain songs. I remember my sisters and I singing to Tony Orlando and Dawn's "Knock Three Times on the Ceiling if your Love Me"
Everytime I heard that song I would flash back to that summer when my sisters and I would be singing that song at the top of our lungs while we were swinging outside. When my sister's friend would play that song we would stop what we were doing and start dancing and knocking on the door with the song.

Simon,
I like the feature you added that lets me know I will lose my post if I exit the page. I used to lose alot of my posts that way. Now I have a chance to keep them.

Is Watchtower's position on smoking consistent with its position on masturbation?
by Island Man inwatchtower considers masturbation to be a form of uncleanness but not a disfellowshipping offence because the bible says nothing about masturbation.
a jw who masturbates is likely to face no more than losing privileges in the congregation.. like masturbation, smoking is considered by jws to be a form of uncleannes and like masturbation, the bible says nothing about it.
but a jw who smokes faces disfellowshipping.. yes, smoking is known to be deleterious to a person's health whereas the jury is still out on the adverse health effects of masturbation.

I think a lot of it has to do with image and publicity. I feel dfing smokers is wrong and too harsh.
But I think the"society" wanted to up the stakes to give people a bigger incentive.
Masturbation is usually in private and less likely to "bring reproach" on the organization.
I think a better comparison is withhow they handle pedophiles.
It seems like they show more mercy to a child molester than to a smoker.

can an unhappy married woman vent?
by sowhatnow ini continue to be saddened by the fact that i am married to such a selfish man.. i want to know if i am the only wife who has no say when it comes to using the house she lives in for activities including other people.. .
let me explain.. yesterday my daugher who is 35 got a new puppy for my grandaughter who is 13. today my daughter and son in law are going to help my uncle at a job, and my granddaughter wanted to spend the day here, my daugher said shed bring her and the puppy over, i laughed and said 'your dad wont have that, ill have to go to your house'.. after all it will 'upset' the 2 cats they will hide all day [like they do anytime someone including my grandchild is in my home] .. i already knew that he would not like it if she brought the puppy over, [weve had dogs so its not like he hates them].
he doesnt care if his grandaughter would have enjoyed playing with the puppy over grandmas house, where she likes to be for a change, and that fact that id like to see what my cats would do when they saw a dog for the first time in thier lives.. maybe id have liked to play with the puppy .. when i said to my husband that my daughter said she wanted tp bring them over he said.

Kaik, that sounds like a great place to spend your childhood. I am sorry you cant find the place again.
Maybe it's' better that way:
Sometimes the memories are sweeter than the reality.

Hi Smiddy. Thanks for sharing. It really is amazing what things we remember.
Im not sure how much we can actually trust the earliest memories. The nice ones I think I will believe.
Have you ever compared memories of an event with members of your family? Were the events remembered similarly ? How different were they?

Hi Kaik, thanks for sharing those memories. I know what you mean about remembering things more than people.
I have strong memories of the house I lived in when I was 5. I remember the wood floors, the lay out of the rooms and the big front porch.
I too went back to view the house, but could not find it. I still remembered the landmarks. I finally realized that they tore the house down. I was so disappointed.

They came, they saw, they left...
by NVR2L8 induring the holiday period one if my wife's brothers had planned a vacation in our area.
they drove about 6 hours to a condo they leased for a week to celebrate their wedding anniversary with their married son and daughter.
they called my wife to let her know they were coming to visit us since they were 2 hours away.

Many JWs consider it a virtue and being "spiritually minded" to put "kingdom interests"first before family.
I dont think most witnesses ever realize how that looks to other people. They just want to look good in their circle.
