I felt like an idiot, explaining my oldJW beliefs

my son's b/f and his mom stopped by tonite and his mom and i got to talking about religion and all the rules we got so sick of.

she is pentecost, and admits that they have to many dumb rules too, just as jw's do.

she is a faithful church goer, twice on sunday, she sings in choir.

I am about to leave for my Aunt's wake at the funeral home. Everytime I have to get together with my extended family of all NON-JW's, I secretly pray that they do not bring up anything religious. That would mean having to go into the embarrassing past of involvement with the JW religion. This seems to enter every facet of life. School, friends, neighbors, family, you name it, I hate having to explain the old JW beliefs to others. Feel like a complete looney to have ever been one of those weird people who knock on other people's doors trying to pass off the WT publishing company as a religion.

Must go now, geeze......I hate these things, I don't think even the dead like them.

Help Please, for a friend in crisis (non JW)

this is totally non-jw related, but i have a close friend who is in turmoil at the moment and there are lots of great people here who are good with advice so any help would be appreciated.

my friend, who ill refer to as katie has just found out some shocking info about her past.

katies mum has been an alcoholic for about 15 years.

Sorry Katie has had such a hard life. It sounds like a soap opera on TV. The Montel Show has alot of these type of paternity test shows on. Always seems to lead to heartache. Not that I watch them that much.

I kind of got lost, so I re-read your post, and I still am confused.

Katie must do what she feels she must in this situation. If she feels strong enough to find out the truth, she should go for it. Hope everything turns out ok for her.

heres a story of what happened to me at a district convention this year.. an unbaptised publisher and i travelled to wolverhampton district convention in england.

this wasnt our district but id been on holiday and had missed my own district convention (how unspiritual of me).

so me and this friend decided to go to this convention and was also hoping to meet a friend there.. on the saturday morning we were delayed in traffic and we eventually arrived at 11.30am, paid our 3 for parking (i wonder if they had the use of car parks for free?

PSYCHOLOGY TODAY magazine features ex-JW book!

i was flipping thru the latest issue (dec. 2002) of the popular magazine psychology today, and noticed some book reviews.

the article on pg.

76 is entitled "cq: psychology today introduces culture quotient (cq), a review of the season's most psychologically astute...books, ..." and one the 11 books they chose to bestow this description upon was diane wilson's new book, awakening of a jehovah's witness: escape from the watchtower society".

That is one book I haven't read yet. Think I will get it.

My husband and I have read Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom. We have just received yesterday from Amazon, The Sign of the Last Days-When? and The Gentile Times Reconsidered. Amazon took awhile getting them to us, but they finally arrived. My husband has started reading The Sign........and is finding the information there very interesting.

Top 10 points proving JW belief is false.

i need some really good points to prove to my husband once and for all, everything i have learned so far is right.

we were talking again last night, and he actually for the first time said he would look at the information that i have found.

i have the coc book, and i dont want to throw a whole bunch of stuff at him at one time.

Just my opinion, but "talk is cheap." Meaning, you can talk to JW's about the problems in their religion, and it seems to go in one ear and out the other. It is my opinion that they have to be jolted somehow in their lives. It must become personal to make them see through the fog.

In my case, and my husbands, it was the lack of love shown between the so-called brothers and sisters. Some very mean and hurtful things done to our family. Also, the UN issue was a starting point for us to question how many other things has the WT been hiding from their rank and file. Read Ray Franz's books. And that was the beginning of the end for us with the WT.

I hope that your husband can lift that fog that envelopes every JW's mind. Maybe if you approach your husband with the reasoning of, 'If the WT has nothing to hide and is really God's Channel here on the earth, then why can't you be free to read the above mentioned books. If they are filled with lies, you will see it.' I don't know if this will work, but regardless, I wish you the best with your husband.

I guess all of you down there are breathing a big sigh of relief! Sure, hope that it is them, before they could own up on their threat of harming children. Must have been a terrifying time for everyone down there.

I live in NJ and it seems that they have a NJ connection. Heard on the news that they were in Camden recently. Didn't catch everything on the news. To busy here in the morning. Heard anything about this?

Also, since the crimes where committed in the DC area and Maryland, will they be subject to the death penalty if convicted. Think it would be too good for them. They should be made to suffer in some way at the hands of the family members who are made to go on now without their loved ones.

So Sad...So Sad.... The WT with its unscriptural blood doctrine gives everyone involved a no-win situation, except the WT itself. My heart goes out to the father who is left to pick up the pieces of his life and try to go on. The grief must be unimaginable. No words are appropriate to describe the revenge some must feel who lose a child to this murderous religion. No words are appropriate to describe the hate I feel for a religion that proposes to be the direct channel to God himself, when pitting families against one another, and sacrificing children to uphold some words written down in a book so long ago. So sad........so mad.....again, where are you, God, while your children on this planet suffer at the hands of an evil religion. Not the first time, won't be the last.

Decline in Bird Population!!!!

hee hee, just heard it on cnn - decline of almost 25% in america of almost all bird species.....they didn't specifically talk about the vulture population though (sigh).

While in school I did a report of the effects of DDT on the bird population. The DDT gets into the birds eggs and, either the birds are born deformed, or not at all. And, the chemical makes the birds egg shells too thin and the baby bird is therefore not viable. This report was done along time ago, don't remember much more.

Really don't have much love for birds. Grew up with a slew of canary's, beebee parrots, finches, you name the bird, my mother had it. Dirty, smelly creatures.

Wedding Ceremony

my brother and his family have been jw's for over 10 years now.

i am not and no one else in my family is a jw.

my brother's son will be getting married shortly and we will be attending the service in the kh.

Expect to hear the word JEHOVAH repeatly inserted into the wedding ceremony oration. You will not leave that wedding ceremony without the word JEHOVAH drummed into your brain with every other word. Why they do this is plain and simple. They want to preach to you at every opportunity. This is just another opportunity.

Also, during the reception, you will not be toasting the bride and groom. Not allowed. You will not be catching the garter or watching a bouquet tossing because they are not allowed either. You will also be subjected to more praying before dinner with the word JEHOVAH repeatedly said throughout the prayer.

But, regardless of these small inconviences, I am sure you will have a good time. Witnesses are known to drink to alleviate the stress of being a witness, so alcohol will be plentiful I am sure. And, food is allowed. Just no blood food products. And, dancing is permitted, too. Have a good time. Just bring earplugs.
