christians are preparing to enter lent.
and of course, with lent comes fasting.
orthodox christians recognize five levels of fasting:abstaining from meat (starting tomorrow at sun down) abstaining from meat, eggs, milk, butter, and cheese abstaining from meat, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, and fish abstaining from meat, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, fish, oil, and wine abstaining from all foods and beverages except bread, water, juices, honey, and nuts.
Robdar,
Nice topic and something for me to think seriously about, thanks for reminding me when Lent begins.
Raised as a JW I never gave it much thought about fasting or practicing Lent, (which I sometimes felt was sort of heathenistic). Although my father (absent mostly from my life) was a Catholic. I think the real meaning of fasting was lost as a witness, oh they suggested at times to have the "spirit of fasting" or "spirit of the sabbath" (like put more time in the field service around the time of the Memorial, etc.) but I have met some people who really take this serious and I admire them, my former co-worker is Catholic and she taught me alot about Lent and what she does.
And I agree, that I wouldn't fast to think that God would love me better...I would love myself better and probably develop more of an understanding for what Jesus went through.
I think fasting is a universal yet very personal undertaking and I would like to try it for my soul this year.
btw...were you at the apostafest...if so I missed seeing you on webcam. hope to meet you soon.
love eisenstein
my mother's cousin sent this to me, from their local newspaper.
mom would have a fit, if she knew he sent it to me.

Thank You Mulan for sharing this with us,
It makes me cringe to read the notice. It really brings it home to me and makes me realize my decision to leave is a good one. There are actually days I have doubts that I am not doing the right thing...but this is so shocking and just goes to show how lives are literally destroyed over the WT's unscriptural rules.
Thank You too Blondie for the pic posting tips!!!
yours truly has been appiointed by valis as a new district overbeer!!!
i promise to do my best in tending the needs of my flock and will always have a spritual bounty available to all who want it.
eric of the district overbeer class
Congratulations! pr_capone!!!
It was nice meeting you via videocam at the apostafest!
p.s. while in the borg i always wanted to be an circuit overseer or district overseer's wife...had the traveling part down to an art. my goals have sure changed these days.
anyways, I'm over 35 now...and too old for the new district overbeer
Again...CONGRATS!!!

MOLHIE-NIGG,
how about loving, compasionate, caring and steadfast in their belief of the truth?
just like a self righteous "true follower" with a holier than thou attitude...I suppose that you will attribute your massive stock earnings as blessings being poured out by Jehovah, with little regards to the thousands of innocent people who are going to be affected by this war.
check out the nickel prices while you're at it.
scorsese's new film is pretty spectacular.
i recommend this movie.. i found this review and agree with most of it:.
date: 26 january 2003. summary: great filmmaking overcomes banal story.
Hi Robdar!!!
Came in to say Hi to You! and say thanks for this post. I was thinking of going to see Gangs of New York and this is a very detailed review, gives me something to look forward to. I've seen the previews on commercials, haven't been yet to see it though.
I saw Confessions of a Dangerous Mind about three weeks ago. It is excellent, even though it didn't get much press or advertising. Great moral to the story of Chuck Barris' life (the creator of The Dating Game, The NewlyWed Game and the Gong Show). I recommend this movie too.
Hopefully, if the creek don't rise, tonight I am going to go see Lord of the Rings.
p.s. I am working on a piece of artwork that I will post soon!!! Thanks again for your encouragement...talk to you soon!

as most of you know eisenstein and i are roommates...and some of you know about eisenstein having been laid off...well i had gotten her a gig boarding one of my dogs, a white lab, sweet as can be, maggie...poor maggie almost kicked the bucket!.
walking near the park, a crazy mf had his pit bull off the leash.
the dog spotted maggie and charged toward her and eisenstein...let me tell you...eisenstein started crying to the owner "pleeeeeease, get your dog," as she was doing a dance trying to keep the pit bull off of maggie, as a lot of you know we had almost 20 inches of snow, it was really icey and eisenstein fell flat on her face in the middle of the street...the pit bull grabbed maggie by the neck, lucky for her she was wearing a prong collar, a safety loop and a regular collar.
Thanks ESTEE,
for the hugs and the flowers!!!
I think I actually got injured worse than Maggie, I bruised my elbow and knee up pretty badly...I am just happy the whole incident wasn't worse than it could've been.
If there are dogs in heaven, they were looking out for Maggie that day! and me too!

Hi plmkrzy,
Do you own a Pit Bull? We didn't mean to come off as being predjudice. We've actually seen the Pit Bull puppies and they are so sweet and adorable. It is what the owners do to them that makes them the way they are (starve them, beat them, cut their larnyx out, etc.) Take no offense, it was just a horrifying experience for me and Maggie. And for Chachasmum too as she has taken care of Maggie since she was 6 months old (Maggie is 7 now).

.
well this is just plain depressing :( can't believe stuff like this still happens..
Oh My God!!!
Such a tragedy for such a beautiful young life!
My sister in-3D told me about this earlier but, seeing this picture it just now hit me.
in-3D has a serious heart condition that wasn't diagnosed until she was 17, then and now her only hope was and is a combined heart and lung transplant. She didn't have it done then because of the blood issue and now there are other factors involved. But, I feel very fortunate to have her alive and relatively healthy. She has outlived all of the doctor's expectations.
Again, what a tragedy for this young girl and her family...
(CMEO...crying my eyes out)

tell me folks, given that most of us can now not worry about what we listen to anymore.
what are some of your favourite bands, singers or other performers?
doesn't matter what kind of music, but it'd be interesting to see what some of you are into these days.
Wow Rayzorblade,
I need to get enlightened on my music. I don't recognize any artists you mentioned except for David Bowie.
As for me I think or at least I thought I did, have a wide taste in music:
Female Singers: I like Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Oleta Adams, Madonna, Phyllis Hyman, Randy Crawford, Carole King, Nina Simone, Barbara Streisand, KD Lang, Roberta Flack, Sade, Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton and I just recently bought the Dixie Chicks Home...
Male Singers: Prince, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Marc Anthony, Elton John, George Michael...
Groups: U2, The Moody Blues, The Calling...
I like Jazz a lot: Miles Davis, Bobby Caldwell, Spyro Gyro, Four Play, Dave Koz, Etta James, Dianne Reeves...
I would like to learn more about some of the artists you mentioned.
