So your reason for not answering the question is, lots of people before you already have? Well then surely you are in a better position to debate if you've already been a part of one and hopefully you would have come to a conclusion by now.

I also saw how you listed some people as "masters of deception". Once again, let other people come to that conclusion for themselves. No offence but your view on a lot of things will be biased. Obviously if YOU believe some things are/aren't true and someone disagrees then from your point of view they're wrong. But to someone else you might be the joe who is wrong. If you're gonna tell people that they're wrong at least give your reasons for why YOU think they're wrong.

Also, dot was right when he said there was no need for insults. I got a bit carried away before and I think you are now. If you don't want to answer a question, then fine. But calling people stupid isn't necessary. If the reason that you're still posting here is because you want to "save" a few people from being sucked into the vicious cult that is this forum then you're going about it wrong.

Heavensgate I think you kind of missed the point. It isn't fair for you to tell people like dot that people like data dog and outlaw are only on this site to slander the jws and in the same way it isn't fair for anyone else who is an ex jw to constantly bombard people that have legitimate doubts with ttatt. It should be left to them to decide where and whether or not they want to look for the answers for themselves.

You telling someone that their question doesn't really matter when looking at "the moral of the story" and saying that they need to be prepared for the judgement of god doesn't address the problem. In fact you still haven't answered the question yourself unless I've missed something then I apologise. Whether or not dot is really in the truth is the real moral of the story. Im gonna be honest and say that I never really paid attention in the meetings so I'm not sure if this is true. But didn't Jesus (or maybe it was Paul) say to make the truth your own or at least to seek the truth? Well how could someone do that without considering all the facts themselves?

it is rare to have absolute proof of the fact that the borg is categorically wrong.. the recent discovery of hominid footprints in happisburgh, norfolk, england is one such.

these footprints are of a family of people who walked in the soft mud 800/850 thousand years ago.

this is properly substantiated fact not open to dismissal.. further evidence in the uk shows the use of flint tools in hunting and butchering animals again accurately dated to 450,000/500,000 yearsthe bible traces adams creation to something over 6000 years ago.

Well I'm assuming that the people who discover and date these footprints are the same people that do the same for fossils of dinosaurs and stuff. Because, unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure that the wt use the fact that dinosaurs existed millions of years ago to disprove young earth creationists views and try to convince people that the bible is scientifically accurate. Anyone wanna try and see if any jws will accept the evidence that disproves their own doctrine?

w08 2/15 23-24 'Christ's presence what does it mean to you?' says:

The time period during which “this generation” lives seems to correspond to the period covered by the first vision in the book of Revelation. w10 4/15 10-11 'Holy Spirit's role in the outworking of Jehovah's purpose' says:

14 What does this explanation mean to us? Although we cannot measure the exact length of “this generation,” we do well to keep in mind several things about the word “generation”: It usually refers to people of varying ages whose lives overlap during a particular time period; it is not excessively long; and it has an end. (Ex. 1:6) How, then, are we to understand Jesus’ words about “this generation”? He evidently meant that the lives of the anointed who were on hand when the sign began to become evident in 1914 would overlap with the lives of other anointed ones who would see the start of the great tribulation. That generation had a beginning, and it surely will have an end. The fulfillment of the various features of the sign clearly indicate that the tribulation must be near.

On the jw.org online library these are found under Generation: 'understanding clarified (2008)'. Right under 'understanding clarified (1995)'

hey i joined this thread recently and thought this was a good way to introduce myself.

i am 15, still going to school and i live in the uk.

a good chunk of my mum's side of the family are jws.

I forgot to mention that the first thing the elder asked me when I told him that I didn't think the jws had the truth was "Have you been told this from somewhere?" he didn't even ask my why before he asked this. So according to him, I'm guessing that either I'm not able to come to that conclusion by myself because I'm only a teenager, the gb were right when they said that every "worldly" person is out to lead me away from the "truth" or that nobody could even think of saying such a thing without someone telling them so because it's so obviously the truth.

It was also nice to actually say no when someone in the kh asks something for the first time. I always felt too bad and always ended up saying yes to everything.

one of the things that keeps me going is thinking about the things my family and i will be able to do once we are all out, together, and free at last.

(and we will be out together, i'm staying positive!).

Can god see into the future?

this is something that's been bothering me for a while.. if god could see into the future, why has he allowed so many bad things to happen?

for example in the garden of eden.

he should have known from the beginning what would happen.if there was even the tiniest chance that they'd eat the fruit then god obviously didn't think it would be benefical to, idk, prevent it from happening?

"So, what is in your future? Can anyone know? Professionals who try to predict the future have met with some successes but also many failures. Yet, it is said that God can accurately foretell upcoming events. His Word says: “From the beginning I foretell the outcome, and from long ago the things that have not yet been done.” (Isaiah 46:10)"

Hey you responded to my thread. I was really asking what was the logic behind putting the tree in the garden if god already knew from the beginnging they would eat from it and he could see from the beginning the outcome of their actions (assuming that the story in the bible is literal and according to jws it is). I was also trying to make the point that god either wasn't being loving or wasn't thinking ahead before he did it.

but if you don't take the story literally then I guess it doesn't really matter

Hey guys just a quick update. I no longer have to go to the meetings anymore (except for when my mum gives a talk on Tuesdays, the memorial and the international assembly that we've already booked a hotel for).

I finally had the discussion with the elder. He kept saying about how he would ENCOURAGE me to keep going to the meetings and to have a study with someone but he can't physically force me. Whenever he asked me if I would be open to continue going but I said it wouldn't make a difference. I've already made my choice. I told him I don't think the religion was the truth (he had to take a breath, must've shocked him so much) and that even after doing research i still want to leave. He kept saying "we'll talk about it on Tuesday" to try and convince me into going back.

When we got home I told my mum how it went and asked if I still had to go to the meetings. I could tell she was a bit upset and she was saying that I was going because she enjoyed having me there and not because the elders wanted me to so what they said didn't affect me. Then she said that she would rather me sat in the meetings, not engaging with the talks and staring into space than not go at all. Then i said "who said I had to engage with it in the first place?". That's when she said "alright fine, dont go, but you're coming to the memorial" and later she asked if I would go if she had a talk on a Tuesday meeting and I said ok.

I think it will be a while before I can play COD or legend of zelda with her in the room but it's a still a step in the right direction.

p.s I don't think I'll try to get her to leave though because she seems happy and I don't want her to get shunned by her own mum
