  MJ verdict is in.....

  well the verdict is in and is going to be read in about 20 min.

  the scene on the tv is pretty ugly, cops are pulling out riot gear.

  if found guilty it doesn't look good as far as "keeping the peace.

  Question for Christians and ex-JW: How is salvation attained?

  i am a rather newly minted christian.

  i have been exposed to many different beliefs besides the jw, but i tend to take more of a "mere christianity" view of salvation.. here is a summary of that view.. i believe there is a god, evidenced by an innate natural law that most understand, aspire to, and expect from others.

  laws require a lawgiver.

  But what I am really trying to get at is what is required for a person to cross that threshold from not worthy of salvation to being worthy of salvation? Are there certain actions required, or is it simply a change in the state of the mind?

  WTS Recognizes that Millions have Left the Faith

  at the portland maine district convention that was held this past weekend, brother buck from brooklyn bethel gave the last talk on sunday.

  in this talk he mentioned the "millions of people that have left" in the recent past.

  he also mentioned them in the concluding prayer.

  instead of getting an education and getting a job with benefits because armageddon can come any day? or how about getting sick and tired getting ready for a meeting, study for FS every time you turn around???

  Ive been out for 20+ To me its not so much the job thing but Im married two teens and a seven yo. we both work full time, with the gym, yard work, JWD and everything else. I laugh at times and wonder how could anyone fit that cult into their lives????

  Whew Im tired just thinkin about it.

  hello all, i've been reading your site for a couple of years now, and have found, for the most part, it to be very helpful.

  i must say, at first i was very "scared" at what i might find, but contrary to what i grew up learning, there is a "wealth" of information outside of the watchtower organization.

  i haven't attended meetings for about two years now, and like many i've read about, have spent many hours researching, telling myself "i'm not wrong for searching", and doing more research.

  so yes, in all fairness, there is a possibility. but while we are talking possibilities, there is also the possibility that santa claus exists and that the Lord of the Rings is inspired word of God. There is just as much proof for santa as there is for god. sorry.

  how many times do we have to show that the onus of proof lies on the believer. don't ask us to prove a negative! sheesh!

  Who's we, the collective athiest community. Because your athiesm does not seem as strong as other athiests' ..... I think your an agnostic at heart So what your saying is the onus is on who asks the question first?

  I think you understood the meaninglessness of your last post when you remarked about the pink unicorns etc.

  Ha! The same standard would apply to both. It works both ways. You cannot prove pink whatevers' do not exist. Same with an entity. Back to square 1.

  tetra....:i lack a belief in god(s), because of the lack of evidence for his existence. god has not provided me or anyone with any credible evidence that he exists. nature has not provided me with any evidence that he exists. humans have not provided me with any evidence that he exists. it's not that i haven't searched for evidence, or been open to evidence. it just has not been forthcoming.

  So as to a logical premise, would you agree that there is room for the possibilty of existence, since all known facts have not been discovered or can be known to make an absolute statement as "God does not exist because I have not seen him."

  I suppose the same arguement will/does apply to santa clause, pink unicorns and purple Abe linclons and whomever.

  D.Dog..Both of you act as if the only reason someone would believe in God is because they're dumb or they just don't have enough facts. You suggest that you are smarter than believers.

  Yeah I wonder how smart you have to be, to come to athiest' understandings? I guess us "believers" are mentally challenged.

  Perhaps that was the case while a J-dub, when there was a God, an "a god."
