Watchtower deception about JW divorce rates.

I think most JWs nowadays realize that divorce rates are really not that much lower for dubs than for society overall. I have even heard speakers at assemblys acknowledging that divorce rates among JWs are rising.

JStalin, JWs are not DFd for getting a divorce. They are DF'd if they commit fornication(which will likely result in a divorce at the same time) or if they divorce and then remarry without having scriptural grounds for the divorce.

IMHO, JWs attitude towards separation and divorce have loosened up considerably over the last decade or so. They are much less self-righteous about having better marriage rates than worldly people, and divorce, while still not overly condoned, doesn't carry quite the stigma it once did among them.

I heard a sad story a while back from my wife. She ran into an old pioneer partner. Apparently this sister's elder husband was unhappy and wanted a divorce. She agreed to the divorce, but since he was afraid of losing his precious position, he asked her to be the one to actually file for divorce. So she does, they get the divorce. No one is DF'd, he is still an elder, but since she filed, she is now under 'restrictions' - permanently. They are both still active dubs, both unmarried, he continues to be an elder, every couple years he writes her to ask if he is free to remarry( the answer of course, no).

How screwed up is that?? First of all, how can someone be on restrictions "permanently"? Its not like she can "repent" and un-divorce him. And of course the idea that she takes the fall when he is the one that wanted out in the first place is boggling, along with the fact that she accepts this and continues to be a brain-dead dub.

“That hate can be replaced with love is illustrated by a survey taken in 1994 of 145,958 of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Germany. … By applying unselfish love in their marriages, Jehovah’s Witnesses achieve stable relationships. In some countries one marriage out of every two or three ends in divorce. But the above-mentioned survey indicated that presently only 4.9 percent of the Witnesses are divorced or separated from their mates. Not to be forgotten, however, is that a goodly number of these were divorced before they became Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

Amazing. That's no different than a car dealer bragging that his car gets 50 MPG while dogging his competitor for only having a 10 Gallon tank... the two values have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Maybe they should do a survey and ask how many are "happy in their marriage". That statistic would be very telling indeed.

A couple of you made a good point the stats are also skewed because of disfellowshipping members that are engaged in wrongdoing. Many that do get divorced are subsequently d'd for fornication.
It is like saying 0% of JWs smoke. Thats because they are d'd if they do become smokers. A look at how many children raised as witnesses end up smoking is a more interesting statistic, but virtually impossible to find out.
