I will not make fun at the GA articles, as they tell as much as can be expected when one has the Bible accounts as the basis, but I actually spoke with GB member Schroeder some years ago about it, and he came up with the thought mentioned here, that "when they died, their carcasses were huge deposits of food for the other animals", hence that being part of their role in the Divine Plan. And at least back then, Schroeder was the "science man" among them.
