JWs claim to be led by God. He is directing their organisation by his spirit.
They believe that smoking is wrong, in fact a disfellowshipping offense. So why did god not tell them that smoking was wrong?
Why was it scientists, who they only agree with when it suits them, who gave them this spiritual insight?
Who is directing them?
Well......I've narrowed it down to the spirits of Vlad the Impaler, Genghis Kahn, and Cthullu the Destroyer.

The problem is that you do not understand what "holy spirit" means.
I suspect that the GBs favorite kind of spirit is Jack Daniels. This would certainly explain their excessive interest in the book of Daniel and all of the funny math they managed to come up with to get the 1914 prediction that failed.
Yeah...maybe the JW's would do better if the governing body was made up of Johnney Walker, Jack Daniels and of course Old Granddad...can you think of any more qualified members...?
You know, the ban on smoking (which year was it? around 1970?) caused a lot of problems for a lot of JWs. I was born in 1973, but I know for a fact that my dad smoked in secret until at least 1976-77. My older sisters and brother remember him coming in from "working on the car in the garage", smelling of nicotine. He finally gave it up, but I think that was more due to his illness (he had a brain tumor) than the religion. (LoL, he had a secret porn mag-stash too, what a hypocrite, I think he must have had this idea that whatever he did in private was his own business). But for other witnesses, old men and ladies that had smoked all their lives, it must have been a horrible ordeal to quit (ufortunately I`m a smoker, so I know how hard it is to quit). I know that one old lady in our congregation had been DFed for not quitting, after several warnings. Poor old hag, nothing left to live for than the smokes and the hope of Armageddon and life in the thousand-year-reign, all young again and new fresh lungs to mess up (lol) and then they made her choose. Bastards.
Helrider,... don't be too hard on your old man, the WT forces people to be seeming hypocrits...it's tough being human and having new rules dumped on you by a bunch of old men far away in an iovory tower....Love is lacking from the top down....there's very little compassion. Remembger the good times.

Who is directing them? From what I see biblicaly they are directing themselves. Bible history shows God as using minimal influence on His people after setting them up as an organization / nation. It's been the same with Christianity, 1st century and present day. Bible history shows God points them in the right direction and lets them go on their own. Since Adam and Eve God has used a mostly 'hands off' approach in managing His people. He is definately not guilty of the oppressive, intrusive, heavy handed and micro-managing ways of those leading the His people today. IMO...the GB is split between those slaves that are faithful and those that are evil, and I do believe the evil have had the greater influence since 1914 when the end didn't come as expected. Matthew 24: 48 - 51 and Luke 12: 45 - 48 Also, the Law Code was nailed to the stake with Jesus and died when He died. God's Christain worshipers are now taken from'every tribe, nation and tongue' bringing with them every type of culture with its various customs such as dress and grooming, dating and courtship, music and art, etc... Christianity has 'set us free' from the law. The Governing Body has been bringing us back to it little by little, year after year. They are just like the Christainized Jews who continued to preach circumcision and insisting the gentile converts obey the Law of Moses. Acts chapters 15 and 10.
We have much more God given freedom as Christians to live our lives than most of us realize.
