Odrade, I am so sorry you have been going thru all of this

I think everybody has some kind of a crazy relative and drama in their life....of course some families just seem to have MORE DRAMA.

I hope you hang in there despite all the added stress...maybe a vacation is what you need.

    hugs,

Oh, Odrade, if I can stop shaking with laughter, I will try and provide some comfort. My family is full of nutbars, too.

He shot himself through the mouth. I'm not sure what he was aiming at, but he shot a hole in his tongue, blew his lips off, and messed up his teeth that he just paid $2500 in dental work last month. Other than that, he'll be "fine." Whatever they think that means. Personally, I don't know what to think of all of this. I'm not particularly close to my Grandfather, and don't like to see him suffer, but really, he's NUTS

At least, that is the excuse I am using for my gallows humor. You know what would be worse than dying quickly? He is so inept, he may be condemned to die slowly! He has no idea how to do it right.

I think you need two things:

    (1) Personal sanity

    (2) Know he's safe.

For (2), you have plenty of information here to have gramps declared "a danger to himself or others". Get him committed and in a long-term facility for his own safety. Find out how, and do it. After that, take care of (1). Stop taking the calls, refuse to take updates, distance yourself. For your sake.

Poor gramps. He needs to be protected from himself. What next? An ear, a toe? It would be awful seeing him slowly blown away in bits like that.

Update is he will have some repair surgery today in an hour or so. They want to trach him just in case. He's going to be way pissed when he wakes up with a tube in his throat though. My mom is arguing with the doctors that they shouldn't put the tube in, but they say they are doing it as a wise precaution, and I agree with them.

She did this same thing when her mom was in the hospital, second-guessing the doctors' every decision. I think that part bothers me the most. Anyways, they (Mom and Dad, brother and his wife) are supposed to go to Convention this coming weekend, so I will be "in charge" starting Thursday afternoon. Whatever that means. I would like to know what's going on without all the doctor distrust my mom has. I have an "in" up there at the Hosp, trying to get in touch with him right now.

LMAO @ JGnat. Oh believe me, I am shaking with laughter too. It just gets screwier and screwier around here. I'm still taking the calls because someone has to be the sane one, and as long as I'm not meltdown city, it's all good.

I think my husband is secretly in constant fear that I will end up like them...

That explains why he kept looking at you sideways and muttering "munchies" all evening Sunday.

So sorry about your gramp Odrade. Poor guy.

Yeah, I told him about my Grandfather when he got home from work Monday, he said, so... did you eat all the cookies? ROTFL!

(btw, that would be a NO.)

    Odrade,

I'm so so sorry about that. Poor guy. My guess would be that they will transfer him to psych floor straight from the trauma floor when he recovers. Your parents must be so stressed too, and must feel so guilty.

I know the feeling of hoping you won't turn out with a mental disorder. It runs strong in my family too...

I'm so sorry that you are going thru this.

Maybe if you are up for the challenge you can use your incharge time at the hospital to insure that a good support system is in place for when he's discharged.

BTW someone should get rid of his gun or at least the ammo!
