Mom and I went to have a bite to eat at one of her favorite restaurants which is in a casino. Lo and behold as we were leaving in walks 5 of her dub friends who were going to eat at the same place. She was talking and talking and I got tired of standing there being ignored so I walked away and started playing the slots which was well in their eye site. Even though my back was turned I could just feel the disapproval. Then my mom in a stern voice says unbeliever get back over here. I am 24 years old and she is talking to me like I am a child who wondered off and is up to no good. I was like well you were busy talking and I was bored listening (talking about the recent assembly). She then says to her dub friends it was so nice seeing you blaw blaw. We left and she did not bring up my gambling.

Should dubs be going to casinos even if it's just to eat in a restaurant? She says it's okay because they are not gambling. I'm just kind of curious if this is an accepted thing everywhere.

I believe it is OK so long as they are not tempted by the evils of gambling.

I don't see how the great mother organization could possibly think this is ok...isn't oth org concearned about not giving the appearance of "sin" and bringing reproach on the org...even if it means stripping away personal choice in many matters. The WT is so judgemental...maybe you should turn them in .Haha

Pot....I spent some time in Reno....the witnoids there all ate at the cheap $ 3.99 buffets all you can eat. I didn't quite understand how this could be ok? They told me that the casinos "LOST" money in the resturants and only offered them as an enticement to get people to gamble. Therefore as long as they weren't making money they could not use the Witnoids money to further their cause?!? WTF!

So I guess if you could figure out what a "membership" really costs the YMCA and pay $ .01 less than that....then it would be ok ?!?

There is a place in town that has a GREAT lunch special. Roast beef for $7.99. Only problem is: it is a strip club. I hope to one day see pioneer brothers in there -- for the great food deal. Don't worry, it is OK so long as they are not tempted by the evils of.... pretty women. (i.e. as long as they don't personally get a table dance).

I thought that the Society laid down the law on this .I don't have the Watchtower article on hand about this. No working or eating at a race track or any gambling organization, not even serving food at the concession stands. You would be supporting the establishment with your money even if you just had a meal there. They linked it up with going into a house of ill repute.

Yeah, I grew up in reno. It 3/4 of the restaurants are in the casino's. Almost all the dubs, elders, P.O.s, even a C.O or D.O willl eat in a casino resataurant. If you live there it's almost unavoidable. Plus, lot's of them have janitorial acct's in the smaller casino's, or did in the early 70's.

I know 4 JW'w who went to Vegas in April. One of them is an elder. They played the slots and said it didn't bother their consciences.
