I read the dianetics book and I found some really useful stuff in the first three chapters - then it turned into a science fiction novel.

The movies Phenomenon and Battlefield earth have several strong scientology themes. In essence - if you strip out the money making and the religious aspects you are left with some really rather excellent self help material that wouldn't be out of place in any positive thinking manuals. They encourage confrontation and overcoming of emotional and psychological problems and aim to make tou ibto a fully realised person who reaches their potential which is very laudable. Thats all I can say good about them. After that they are McJedis - a science fiction corporation that will destroy you if you let it.

Why would anyone really believe what some guy, a sci-fi writer says happened millions of years ago? Why??

Wouldn't that make Doris Day a Christian Scientist? That fella who did the Muppets was Christian Scientist also. That's a totally different league than Scientology. I read where that was the reason Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise divorced. She wanted to raise the children they adopted Catholic because that's what she was raised. He conflicted with that; wanting to raise them in the Scientology Church. They also don't believe in working things out; you get rid of the problem right away, whatever the problem is, even a conflicting spouse. Now Tom has found someone who will embrace his cult. Poor Katie!

    Christianity is mundane.

    Scientology is high tech.

The story is better and more exciting.

It is in no way more ridiculous.

As long as you want to believe something fatuous; why not pick the more exciting high-tech story?

I had a very close friend who took me to Scientology Headquarters. I met lots of em. Oh, the stories I could tell.

I don't know what I can tell you, but I do know that I hate Tom Cruise. He is one arrogant son of a bitch. I thoroughly enjoyed watching water get thrown at his face...Katie Holmes can disappear also. While I'm hatin', John Travolta can bite me. Hollywood weirdos, what have they done? I suppose you could say they've employed thousands of people at particular points in time while they had their mansions built, and their airports constructed. Other than that, they get rich while the plight of the common man descends into nothingness. Sometimes I wish L. Ron Hubbard was still alive so he could get all these no-talent assclowns together and have a phenobarbital and applesauce party. Maybe do some vodka shots when they're done and wear purple shrouds with tennis shoes. Idiots.

you can see the video or read the transcript at msnbc.com

i have an acquaintance that was a scientologist .. he said they recorded his " confessions' and he was bullied into confessing anything he'd ever done and any bad thoughts...

he was told evil spirits left over from the alien invasion were what was causing those bad thoughts and deeds. he had given them buckets of money while he was a member...

after a few years he tried to leave and it was very difficult to shake them off..

he'd get threatening calls stating that his confession would be made public, he was chastised for going to the dr about his kidney stones, he kept getting bills in the mail for a LONG time after he left.. he had to move 3 times to stop the mail and calls.

The creepy thing about the Scientologists is that they are even more hostile to "opposers" than JW's. They view such people as less than human. For instance, a Scientologist would think nothing of infiltrating a government organization to find out what they have on them.

Double creepy was a "parenting" leaflet I saw being distributed at my day care. The only clue that the materials came from the Church of Scientology was the mention of L. Ron Hubbard's name. Again, they see nothing wrong with subverting the parenting efforts of regular folk. I alerted my day care operator. She had no idea.
