Scully, there is no provision for a vote of no confidence in the US system. And Judges are appointed for life. That's why appointing judges that pay attention to the Constitution is so important. This decision tramples it.

This is really, REALLY scary. From the lack of responses, people in the U.S. have no idea how this may impact their lives. Now instead of taking away your home so that a highway can be put through, now a local government can re-zone your property, take it away in order for a private corporation to develop it.
In Chicago the north shore is the "rich" area and has been totally developed for a long time. The south shore isn't as nice and is mostly owned by the working poor. I just wonder if this will now allow the mayor's office to seize the properties on the south shore in the name of eminent domain and allow developers to build new housing and stores there.
Once again the working poor are getting screwed. People won't stand for the government to take their land away and give it to a developer. This could like to some serious violence. Scary stuff.
What shocked me was the more "liberal" justices wrote the court's opinion and voted strongly for this ruling. Where's Kerry, Kenndy and Clinton???

I think a lot of JWs are going to view this ruling as "proof" that the Government is about to turn on religion.
Imagine if the Government decided to get its hands on all that currently tax-exempt property in Brooklyn, NY that's owned by the WTS to make way for commercial development? I wonder how long it will be before the WTS decide that it was OK for JWs to vote in political elections once the potential impact of this ruling sinks in?
