Nope Mac can run anything PC's can for the most part. I use Mac Office by Microsoft for Excel...Word,... etc.
We run our office on Macs too....I pitched out all the PC's. We are Mac only now. We've had 1/6 the problems and issues with our Macs.

I'm pretty sure any good programs you'll need to use or want to use you'll be able to find for a mac. I just got out of grad school where there was an architecture program...never saw anyone use a pc.
like I said before I've only heard of shortcomings when it comes to some games...BUT all I know for sure is that I don't have the same options on this forum as I do when I've used a pc to log in here. But that's not a huge deal. -

look on the college website or call them and ask what the facilities are like (what do the comp labs have?)
In the end nobody's going to be able to tell a powerbook from a pc notebook. A powerbook will probably have more memory/ram than any desktop pc you buy....and you'll be able to take it with you if needed.
On top of that...kids in undergrad aren't taking around G4 powerbooks? That's all I see in San Francisco and Seattle.
But look do what's best for you. I don't work for Apple so...no pressure from me.
