Well the 2005 US convention season gets rolling in a couple weeks, lasting until September. Check out the schedule at:
Starting a few years ago, while I was still "in", they started having the local convention committee send out a press release to the local media outlets (TV, newspaper, etc.) about the upcoming convention, the baptism, drama, blah, blah... And we were always buying papers and watching the news that weekend to see what they said about us. Almost always was the coverage positive in some way. I believe there is a simple reason for this. They were only getting their information from one source, the JW convention PR people, and miscellaneous interviews with "selected" witnesses in the audience.
Well, here's an idea I've been hatching: What if we send a press release to all of the media outlets in each convention city, the week of the convention. So that the media will get another side of the story, and might have some embarassing questions to ask the JW PR folks when they visit the convention site. Wouldn't you like to see the stunned face of some elder on the six-oclock news, as he's asked about the UN registration scandal, or the pedophile problem?
Following is a first draft of a Press Release for just such a purpose. Look it over and let me know what you think. If those of us on this forum who live near one or more of the convention locations could help us get contact information for the local media outlets, we could blanket the country with the TRUTH about "The Truth".
