You hit the nail on the head when you said to remember the "elders make their own rules"!!!!!!!! And don't forget, they do it as they go...! I went to a KH that they raised us kids, inflicting the parents, and us, with their OPINION, oops, I mean Jehovah's way for true christains to behave, etc. Their way was the only biblical way. If not, it was an elder's meeting (or 2). I was the one that made them EARN their titles!

If you have a flaw and wish to MAKE UP for that flaw you wear make-up.
You make up the difference between your view of how you "should" look and how you really do.
On the one hand, make-up is a lie; or, at the very least an illusion.
On the other hand, it gives people over a long period of time a false sense of what beauty is.
Instead of beauty being what IS (natural) it becomes what artifice can make it SEEM.
This distortion amplifies. As all lies do.
I'd reframe your question (Should JW's use make-up?) and make it:
Why do we think we look better when we lie about our appearance?

You know it is funny but on my job once all the women were talking about me being a witness and then one said, yeah and she wears makeup, she isn't supposed to. So one of my friends on that job called me and asked if I was supposed to wear it. I told her of course I can wear makup!
