Apostate Websites

I thought about something while reading Scoobys thread on ex-jw websites, but didn't want to post it on there because that thread has went off on a totally different tangent.

I've always been taught that the best form of defense is attack, so it be in the best interests of the wbts to go on the attack against apostates. Could they do this by setting up a fake apostate website? It could be full of misinformation, sensationalism, etc, so that any witness who views it will think that what they have been told about apostates is true and so most will not bother looking any further and find the real truth. It could also be used in talks about apostasy at assemblies, stating things that apostates are saying but using stories that originated on their own website and can be proven to be false, and so discrediting real reports that people will read about tragedys that have happened.

Would it be technically possible for the wbts to start something like this and get it up to a level where it got enough traffic to be effective? How likely do you think they would be to try something like this, and how well do you think it would work?

*Please Note* This is a purely speculative thing, and don't think for a minute that this has actually happened and draw anything away from the pain that has come from some very real tragedies.

It has been put forward that some of the really nasty ex's might really be active JW moles intent on causing trouble by posting as though they were ex's. I could just imagine some 20- something bethel whizz-kids deciding to try and cause a little mayhem.

I think this is all just speculation, and i Wonder how effective a strategy like that could be. Besides it would be really immoral. I do think apostate websites might cause brooklyn a severe headache, but there's really not much they can do about it.

I if you don't have any proof of something like that ever happening, I'd say this is a typical case of apostate paranoia. Has the expression "apostate paranoia" been coined yet?

btw, I do believe there must be some individual jw's with shady motives out there on the internet though i suspect they feel pretty powerless confronted with the powerful digital apostate community. Besides I still have to see the proof of WT observation of these sites, let alone (futile) sabotage attempts.

    It's called "black propaganda".

There's already apostates using this tactic against the dubs. It should be done more.

BUT what if one of these Fake Apostate Run By JW's takes a sheep out of the truth?

    MILLSTONES FOR EVERYONE!

I think the chances of something like that happening do not even have a slim chance! JWs philosophy on everything has always been to ignore things and turn the other cheek. Plus, an effort like that would take from their already over-loaded, self-imposed duties. And, as someone mentioned, I do not think they would do it because of even the remote chance of losing one of their sheep contributors.

Personally, I think the JWs will just continue to tout the internet as evil and one of Satan's tools. I just wonder how long they will be succussful in doing this with the rapid growth of telecommuncations that we are seeing. I mean, can you imagine the telegraph being called evil? It was once new too and allowed very fast transmission of information and propaganda.

I remember a guy [email protected] who run a website that was pro-JW at first glance. But he highlighted the stranger JW-tenets like 1935 etc.

When I - an active JW back then - eMail him he contacted my provider that I harrassed him.

I have never found out what it was all about.
