A lovely thought that the 'Tower could crumble , but :-
I do not think that intelligent people are necessarily critical thinkers. i am thinking of experiences like "I was a NASA scientist", and the number of students who study and attend meetings. I worked with several elders in my time who were much more clever than me, in terms of their work and profession , but they are still committed to the cause and I am here.
It is true though that the borg has a skill shortage since so many are now born and raised within, so they have not been to university.
I feel that travelling overseers are too busy stopping the r and f from reading other stuff and the internet, to be able to really challenge the central authority, and they really do have to say "Where can we turn away to?"
but It will fall one day, I guess it will fall financially due to a slow slow drip away of support ....
