No. I always believed he was elected into Papacy by his peers; Just like presidential elections.

Even as a child I knew there was nothing superhuman about him and that he was not favored by God in any way. I just figured then that his was just a "job". (My Mom'd disagree with me.)

That's what Catholic doctrine teaches. There is nothing superhuman about the Pope and man cannot know if God favours him or not. There have been of bad popes, like Pope Alexander VI who had papal concubines and was reputed to turn the Basilica of the Holy Saviour (now St. John Lateran) into a brothel. The belief is that the Holy Spirit prevents the Pope from making doctrinal error in statements that would be considered infallible. One "example" of this would be when Pope Sixtus (I think it was the V) was about to promulgate an extremely flawed version of the Vulgate and he died the day before he was about to do this (perhaps he was assasinated, but this is my speculation and I don't know any historians who think this).

The real problem is that most Catholics don't know enough about their own faith, which makes them easy pickings for JWs. The blame for this probably lies on the bishops for not properly overseeing the catechesis of the laity.

    the_classicist,

Your agruement is illogical and falls into the ad hominem logic error at best. (The information about Pius XII is taken from here.)

what an extensive research you did LOL

Yes, sorry, they where actually very good and didn't like the nazi and mussolini,

I mean yes, the pope married the d aughter of mussolini but that's ok, they were telling people to follow mussolini and go to war and respect him because he was a good man but hey...

Facists in Italy were more concerned with socialists and communists than they were with persecuting Jews

Yes I forgot that you are only a bad if you persecute Jews but persecuting communists and socialists it's OK, it doesn't count.

What was is that you were saying about logic....... LOL

I could point you to the dates and an enormous ammount of data for what they did, but I just cannot be asked.....Trying to defend them is suicidal...If you really want to know research it yourself. (just get a hystory book from first grade)

My Friend I understand that you have a faith and you should follow it, Jusus saves lifes, you see the pope differently because you come from Canada. Just stick with your faith and forget about the pope and all his friends dressed up in funny clotes.....with all their gold and masonic friends, Just stick with people because you can judge if somebody has a good disposition but not institutions my Friend and expecially not this one.

There one thing with them that is not bad at all, they let you do preatty much everything since WW2, and they don't kick you out so if you feel ok there stay.... They even let you read the bible now!!!

    Take care

    Yep Barry!

That's why he can make saits without consulting with Jesus. He thinks he has all the aothority he needs and if Jesus doesn't agree..

    well tough!

he needs to make saints so people have more idols to worship and something to put in frames to decorate the house.....
