wow it looks so deceptively innocent doesn't it. the forces of nature never cease to amaze and awe me.
Here's another series of pictures from Thailand that shows that it often isn't a big wave at all but a surge that basically floods everything and rapidly increases in intensity. BTW, the photographer says that the guy caught in the water seen in the photos was rescued seconds after the pictures were taken.
That tsunami was terrible and so many people lost theirs lives. It really show how small we are when it comes to the ravages of nature.
Thanks for sharing the picture.

Those pictures are incredible!! Makes your stomach ache to watch the progress of the water. thanks Leolaia for sharing them.
The most disturbing pictures I saw where not by the sea (though the ones by the sea were very disturbing), it was the video footage of Indonesia when they were climbing on to that mosque and the tidal wave was coming behind them, the water was black and was a sea of wood/metal/cars/vans/ all being pushed forward over the people. No one stood a chance, a blue van pulled out and was just washed away. The water was higher than the building, not a sould could have survived. This is an image I swear I will take to the grave with me. unforgettable and unforgiving towards nature. Still makes me ill.
The Osbournes have an advertisement asking for help through DEC, all the images are horrid but one particular one, that is in the right hand corner of the advert, is an indonesian woman standing with her daughter, the look of despair on that womans face haunts me every single day. Gosh, gets me so emotional.

Brummie....That video was from Aceh province, several miles inland, and the water had already destroyed the coastal villages (most likely with very large waves because it is so close to the earthquake epicenter) and carried the debris through the thoroughfares. The only silver lining I can possibly think of is that the tsunami happened in the daytime. Had it happened while people were sleeping, all those people who were able to get away and get to high ground would have been sleeping unaware of what was happening.
actually it seems that their is a lot of little onces ... We juste know NOW how BIG IT CAN BE

YES! thats the one, I couldnt remember the name of the place. I have never seen anything like it, and pray we never see anything like it again, I just cant imagine how the real surviving eyewitnesses are coping with the aftermath of the mental destruction let alone the physical destruction of everything and everyone around them.
Thx Leolaia ((( ))).
