it's really sad when people think that if you're mentally retarded, you need to be kept in your place. she just happened to live in a family that had a lot of influence, which means that you need to keep up the perception that you have everything (and everyone) under control.

I always heard that the reason Eunice Kennedy Shriver founded the Special Olympics was because of her own mentally retarded sister. I've read a few Kennedy books and they all says she was retarded, but that Rose refused to exclude her from public functions............including being presented to the Queen when they were in England. She was drilled on that procedure for weeks before she was allowed to actually do it. Doesn't sound like mood swings to me.

let me guess ... it is a Kennedy conspiracy ... in actuality they WANTED to subject their daughter to surgery, etc. because she was a wanton teenager. They created the mental challenges as a big COVER-UP of their evil scheme. And I bet it was because they wanted their sons to be successful politicians. And the whole family was in on it together, covering it up till this day. yeah, that's it.

On the other hand bipolar are hard to detect at first (the word bipolar does not tell much, it euphemizes the real thing), they could be very agressive verbal and physically. Today they give them a medication to keep them under control, you can tell when they are medicated, and usually they gain a lot of weight, which dont look like "normal"overweight. One of the pictures shows her with THAT kind of overweight am talking about. i know several people who acted strange and in short time they gained weight, in part that's a clue. I had a girl friend who told she was taking medication for "depression", later i became aware the mediacion had to be for some other condition she did not want to tell me.
