I think we have to await the facts here before we pass judgement.
Just because there is a child abuse problem in the JW's and a JW has been accused does not mean he is guilty. There are also a lot of disturbed teenagers who are JW's and it is entirely possible that this may be the true explaination.
Either way its not healthy.

if he is found not guilty, the girl should do the same sentence he would have. as a man, there are few things i despise more than false accusations of rape, because there is no punishment for those who accuse falsely, and for a man, there is no way to unstick the label of 'rapist'. living with killing is easier than living with being thought of as that.
i don't know the details of this case, but the guy may well be innocent.
at 61 he may have conditions that prevent him from being able to rape anyone.
if i was ever accused of rape, knowing how bogus an allegation it would be, i would find it amusing too.
i have no sympathy for a girl crying in court, and i think courts should have no consideration for tears, and if they can't be controlled, the testimony of the witness should be read in the form of a statement, not on the stand.
maybe he is guilty, and if he is the punishment should be as severe as is imaginable.
...but i strongly believe there should be a law protecting the name of the accused until he is convicted, and there should be a law which means that if proven innocent, his accuser faces prosecution and jail time.

It's good to see common sense prevail here. It would have been real easy to say all kinds of hateful things about this guy because of this accusation, but by and large everyone has had a "wait and see" attitude as to what evidence can be found. To me, this shows good reasoning and thinking. We don't have facts or evidence. Let's not jump to conclusions.
I wonder how many JWs who read that article will have that attitude? Who will they be tempted to say hateful things about?
I do wonder why it took the parents two months to go to the police after the girl told them.

Rape allegations against a Jehovah's Witness have been dismissed as "farcical", a court has heard.
Jon Hines, 61, a Jehovah's Witness, told Ipswich Crown Court yesterday that his 20-year marriage had ended in divorce mainly because he had been unable to make love to his wife for several years as a result of prostate problems.
Hines, formerly of Kingston Close, Huntingdon, and now living in Lowestoft, said the 13-year-old's allegations were "farcical".
He was continuing to give evidence today.

Wow I guess right. I was telling someone in chat that he is 61 and could have had prostate problems or surgery. And that could be his defense.

The word AMUSING in a rape case wether guilty or not is wrong. That is a sick response in any case. If it is found that he is guilty i hope all remember those words that he chose to us.
