New study finds porn to be healthy

Okay, let's see if I can explain this very simply so you can understand.

I really don't think you're in a position to be so condescending

Ms. Steinem is saying that a woman who reads playboys feels a little LIKE a jew reading a nazi journal. She is comparing two situations where people are victimized and what they might feel like.

Fine. Your condescending attitude to me above is "a little like" the Holocaust. That OK with you?

Now, like I said, studies are studies and any group or cause, no matter how good or vile they might be can do studies that find they are "healthy". My use of neonazis was to say that even a group as vile as the neonazis can do their studies to try to make them more acceptable, doesn't make it true.

I guess you can use that as a catch-all. If any studies show any results you don't want to believe, all you have to do is compare them to neo-Nazis. Very handy in place of an actual argument

My main point here and it is my opinion, FD is that it's ridiculous for the writer to point to a study and declare porn healthy.

My opinion is that you've no idea what you're talking about. Want to back up that opinion with a few facts, or do only Nazis do that?

If you haven't met anyone who has been hurt by porn, then that's wonderful for you. Unfortunately I have met many, many people including myself who have been hurt by it

I've seen people who've been hurt by alcohol, drugs, TV and sunshine. What's your point?

I am saying the porn industry as whole causes a lot of problems for a lot of people. It's a huge stretch to say it's healthy. If in your life you haven't seen this then blessed you are: for now.

What's unhealthy about it? What problems does it cause, and for whom? I know you have a disdain for studies, but do you have any information to support what you say, or is what you really mean that you, personally, don't like what you consider to be pornography?

Derek, don't mistake being emphatic for being condescending. And I asked you to go back and read Ms. Steinem's quote more carefully. You still don't get it. Bewildering you are. But condescending,I don't feel that way at all.

Let me emphasize my point again. You can take ANY group, from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, to Ladies Who Sell Tupperware or Veterans of Foreign Wars or the like (even groups like the neo nazis who we all know are full of bull) and they can hand you a study. I hope my point is clear to you this time. I really think you just want to argue anyway.

The harm the porn industry does is a no brainer. Everyone sitting here including you can think of reasons why it might not be a wonderful, healthy addition to society. Obvious reasons include, models who are forced to pose and perform on film and in movies. Underage teens and children who are forced into porn. The bad effect it tends to have on marriages and relationships. Those are just three reasons. You don't have to agree with me on that by the way.

If porn makes you healthy, then I should be a olympic champion by now.

Here's the deal. Most of my girlfriends before meeting me never watched porn. Within a few months into our relationships, they wind up watching as much as I do. I caught my fiance the other day playing with herself when I got home from work, watching my DVD porn.

I think it's all attitude. You have to learn to laugh at the stuff as realize its potential as a carnal stimulant. My girlfriend doesn't particurally like it when a girl gets two or more dicks in her butt at once. So, I don't own any of that stuff. But she likes a lot of the other stuff, and it hasn't hurt us one bit.

Granted, women in porn tend to sometimes be victimized. My suggestion, empower women to make their own porn and create their own porn companies. Some already do. In the end, everything is fair and everyone gets laid.

    Can't hurt...

My Girlfriend will download some porn for us to watch if she feels in the mood. Its not just about victimizing women. She enjoys it just like I do.

I'm just waiting for my Dr. to hand me two DVDs and say Watch two of these and call me in the morning.

I agree, I like amature porn the best. Sure there's the novelty of the implanted, big shoe wearing, porn stars, but I dont get nearly as turned on as I do by the amature porn. I like tasteful porn, even tasteful hardcore porn. The porn I like in no way victimizes women. A women enjoying sex is in no way a victimization. The double standard of that needs to change. Two grown adults engaging in willing acts that both enjoy and video taping it for my pleasure is just fine by me. BTW if it really is healthy than I'm going to live to be a very old woman :)

However if you become addicted to it and then eventually need to view unnatural, victimizing porn, then it becomes unhealthy and you should seek help.
