Robdar ---- The apostle paul does come off sounding like a chauvanist , I can agree with that but there does seem to be something motivating him besides self interest . There are many examples that portray him as being fair and honest about the arrangement . I think one of the main things that women should consider is that they do not have the same obligations as men in his writings . They don't have to preach the gospel or do public works like the dubs think in order to be christian . IMO they pretty much get a free pass
Heathen, Paul's writing have fascinated me and offended me. I used to think that he was a chauvanist until I read some interesting observations concerning his writings. It appears that some of Paul's writings were altered by the church fathers. Suddenly it all made sense. There really isn't any proof that Paul even wrote some of those letters. That is one reason that I am wondering when it was written. It appears to have a Islamic influence and could have been altered as the 3 main religions started to mingle.

Robdar --- Point taken. I think it mostly makes sense but there are parts that seem to contradict and I feel strongly were tampered with by the church after his death. I think the parts about women are mostly accurate tho .
In fairness to the dude, the passages are often interpreted in a modern context.
It seems to me that the only thing women weren't permitted to do by Paul was to teach in a mixed-gender public worship session. It was quite acceptable for them to teach women and to lead congregations in prayer and prophesy (which comes to the point of asking what "prophesy" means in this cointext...).
Paul was a detective. A secularist. If there was a law some people had some place he assumed as a christian you had to follow it. Many of the things paul said was not his oppinion perse but the solution to solve a problem. He did not really ponder much on ideals just solutions. Most of the sins paul added were customs or laws paraphrased into an abriviated form. As times passed on these laws were lost in the sands of times and christianity began to interpet them as Gods laws. Remember these scriptures were not made for posterity. They were letters mailed to people guiding them on how to exist in the acient Roman world. These people had no idea their words would become the bible. Infact I would assume some would be offended that their words as vernerated as holy.
Many of the things considering the only people that had female preist were pagans I see why the christians would be different. Take note the christian view of women were much more forward thinking than the roman way. I am sure the average christian was hard pressed to exist back then. In a weird halo between the Jews and gentiles. THe romans would let you believe anything but their laws conflicted with your belief. The Jews would not let you believe in christ but their laws did not conflict with your religion as much.
XQs:I agree that Paul would likely have been shocked to see his letters canonised, but he'd probably be equally so to be called a detective and secularist.
He was a tent-maker and oracle
I should have said Saul was a dectective and secularist. That is if you believe he actually found and aprehinded as many christians as the christians claim. And he did know his rights as a roman and the laws of the Jews.
I forgot to add "lawyer", and short-term bounty hunter.
Ohio um there have been over 144k anointed JWs
On this I seem to remember being told as a child at the memorial that some who partake are not part of the anointed and they would be dealt with harshly by Jah. It's been so long and my memory fails me but I do believe there is scripture to back this up but can't say for sure.
BT, if the scriptures were explicitly reliable in their veracity......it would be the ones who can master the "siren song" of the "Babble on the Great"....the scriptures....IMHO
