seeing this thread sent shivers down my spine, i had a stalker offline that i met on an online forum not a JW/exJW related one (it was a woman, not a man!) what a pain.

great tips danny. everyone, be careful out there. NEVER give out any personal info that could give people an idea to your location, real name, anything. it's just not safe.

and if elders stalk you, i'd have them receive a call from my LAWYER. if i had it to do all over again, i would do it that way and be done with it.

I didn't realize how many people had this happen.

Here is my experience. It still scares me.

A few years ago I was being stalked by my ex-husband. He would wait a couple of streets over and follow me home from work. He called me one day when I had moved in with a roomate and told me to look out my front door..there he was in my drive way.

The worst was when someone came in to my office over a weekend and left me a note on top of my computer (I got on Monday morning) that said, "Look at your candle and tell me what you see." I went over to a large pillar candle I had on my bookshelf and turned it around. On the other side someone (my ex) had carved it up with knife. I've never been more scared in my life. There were wax shavings by my office window showing he had been looking out the window while doing it. The police came but couldn't prove anything. The doors to the office were not broken in to. He must have had a key. Not long after that my fiance and I got married and I moved away. As far as I know my ex doesn't know where I live but there is always that fear that he will show up someday.

That is truly scary. Exes are most dangerous! My stalker is anonymous; he used the telephone for six years to terrorize me. I never found out who it was, and the police would do nothing.

Actually, I have several small sections of 1 1/2" wide pipe that sit in various locations throughout my apt. for easy access. Small, light, wielded easily in one hand, and will pack a PUNCH.

Also, I carry a 'dog repellent' spray in my hand at those times I must put myself in risky situations (eg, walking alone at nite). ('Pepper' spray is illegal in Canada.) A miniature can of aerosal hair spray works nicely as well, when directed to the eyes.

If my stalker ever returns, he will NOT be successful in his threats of violence.

When my company called the police they were very concerned about it. A day or two before a woman had been shot to death in her business by her ex. The cop told me he would drive around by my office for a few days. He said that there was no reason for my ex to even drive down that street....told me he could take another route. He said he didn't want another incident like the woman who had been shot. I guess that was a wake up call for them. She had been trying to get a restraining order, I believe. I just wish she didn't have to lose her life over it.

These days I feel quite a bit safer. I do, however, have pepper spray if needed.

I as well. In fact I feel for anyone who is being stalked. It's a terrible infringement on rights and property, it's meant to intimidate and in Texas it's against the law. I'd like to see more done in that area to protect innocent people from feeling threatened.

As for the Internet, and this discussion board, never release any personal information to anyone who does not have your absolute trust. Once you release your email address, phone number or anything else of a personal nature it's out there. This board is a safe place, and it is moderated, but whether in real life or on the Net please be careful in how much you tell about yourself and what you give others.

If anyone feels threatened or feels stalked in any way, please contact Simon or one of the moderators immediately. If something happens off the board and you feel threatened, call the police.

i'm sorry, but i have to disagree with this.

no message board, moderated or not, is a 'safe place'. the internet is NOT safe.

it's just like walking into any public gathering, only it's even more dangerous because you can't see who all is looking at what you post.

be careful out there, people, and keep your guard up.

I completely agree. It is too bad that things like this happen. It is a scary experience and very intimidating. I personally thought things like that only happened in the movies or larger cities. I was wrong.

Good advice, Chris.....any signs of behavior that is abnormal should really be reported.
