The privately funded SpaceShipOne made its first flight to out of the Earth's atmosphere today.

This craft is one of the contenders for the X Prize, which will give $10 mil to anyone who can build a craft to carry 3 people out of Earth's atmosphere, bring them safely back to ground and repeat it all with the same craft within 2 weeks.

Does anyone know the other contenders?

Nope, though I think there's a Japanese brain trust working on the same thing. I think it's COOL!

"Man on earth can no more get rid of these demonic 'heavens' (the organization of wicked spirits) than man can by airplane or rockets or other means get up above the air envelope which is about our earthly globe and in which man breathes."- 1943, The Truth Shall Make You Free p. 285

    How pathetic

This is great...It used to take the resources and money of a major nation to ack such an effort...now private companies can do it.

    This craft looks sharp, too...

Amazing event. I hope it's just the beginning of private enterprise performing manned missions.
