Does anyone know why/how Ford ran ads in German Mags in 1944?

A long time ago, I read where both Ford and some other US companies were uncertain of the outcome of ww2 and tried to cover their asses by keeping some ties to Germany just in case the allies lost the war to Germany. I think AT&T was one of the companies along with Ford and others.
