When You Were A Witness---Were You Ever On A Spiritual "High"?

I knew soooo many JWs that would get pumped up because of an assembly or elder's or Circuit Overseer's talk. After hearing the reasons to pioneer, for example, some would wait in a line to get their applications from the Service Overseer. Some would go to their first District Convention, see the "love" and want to get baptized.......Were you one of those persons that ever found yourself "on a spiritual high"???

Yes that's all part of the "Brain Washing" that they use. After one assembly I went home and threw out band t-shirts because I felt it was idolotry and I threw away some records that were hard to replace. I would cut off association with people after certain talks or assemblies.

I've also noticed with my family that sometimes they become more stand-offish towards me for a a week or two after assemblies. Also my best friend's mother does the same to her. There have been times when she has refused to babysit for her (after she already said she would) when she came back from a meeting. I learned early on not to bring up certain subjects to my parents immediately after a meeting or assembly.

    Good question Min

When I was a kid I was walking a foot off the ground.....So thought I was so much better than the "Average Joe". I thought I had "Supreme Knowledge". Yeah I was high.

Oh yeah, you kidding? At one point I was having part at almost every assembly, participating in the dramas, giving demonstrations from the assembly platform. Gosh, I was in such a high I almost thought the next thing was to receive a calling to be one of the anointed!

In retrospect, it was all pure silliness and a waste of my time.

    High everybody!

Definitely. My first true spiritual high at age 24 sent me running back to the Witnesses, where I gladly did the 6-month "show of repentance" to get reinstated. It was probably the most "holy" period of my life. I believed in and (I thought) spoke with God. It seemed I was full of holy spirit, above sin. The Bible was like food to me. I saw God in everything around me.

As my "spiritual food" from the publications weeded out meditation and the Bible reading, the spiritual high gave way to apathy, then depression, then alcohol abuse.

Giving up alcohol led to a new spiritual high which pulled me out of the JW brainwashing, as by this time I had left the org. and had lost all faith in God. I figure if I feel intense spritual highs frequently and I don't believe in God or even read anything spiritual, then it really doesn't matter if I believe or not. Just love.
