This makes me sick. The world has too many careless people for parents. Now that summer is approaching in the northern hemisphere, I'm sure we'll soon be hearing about another rash of tots "forgotten" in vans for hours in the sweltering heat and found dead (like happened last year).

I'm the father of a 4-month old, and this baby girl is NEVER out of sight of either her mom or me (except when she's in her crib at night and we have the child-monitor on). I can't imagine what some parents are thinking.

Cassi -- you're right in that the title of the thread implies intent on the part of the mother.

That having been said, this incident/accident was preventable with a little more foresight. It just is saddening to see helpless little babies die needlessly.

    I agree completly!

Cassi, Gopher I need new pictures of your little one. I want to see her chubby cheeks again.

Whether or not she was negligent or not doesnt mean it wasnt an accident. The problem is that it was preventable. They make tub seats that prevent the baby from going under the water. I see no reason why a one year old cant be washed in a tub even without the seat. Obviously you cant leave a baby alone even for a minute and unfortunately a LOT of parents have learned that the hard way its, not necessarily common sense to everyone that has a child.

Would everyone be yelling murder if it was a man taking care of the child at the time? Or would it be simply a sad accident due to negligence.

Doctors should give a test to each parent before they leave the hospital and administer manditory parenting classes to anyone with a failing grade.

    It is sad though

why would you bathe the baby with something cooking in the kitchen anyway? When I bathed my kids I made sure that everything was off and that the phone was on the answering machine.

Thank you! You are a good parent.

Her mistake was unaceptable and unexcusable. If she didnt have the comon sense to not leave her baby alone in the tub of water then she is an unfit mother. And I dont care what she is feeling.

My daughter either showers with me or I sit on the bathroom floor and read a book or participate in her play. She has bathtub crayons and bath toys that we stack up or stick on the bath. I have a large bathroom so the bedroom is visible and I can lay on the bed and see her from there if I wanted to....but usually I am there right by the side of the bath because it's fun!

When she was a year old........well, we were still bathing in the kitchen sink.
