  Since its very formation at the end of World War II, the UNITED NATIONS has been villanized by the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY as being a governmental organization used by Satan the Devil to oppose Jesus Christ's Kingship over the earth. For decades, the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY has taught that the UNITED NATIONS is the "scarlet-colored Wild Beast" of Revelation chapters 13 and 17. The WATCHTOWER SOCIETY has also long taught that the "Harlot" which "sits upon" the "Scarlet-colored Wild Beast" is a prophetic representation of all False Religions on earth; that is, all religions except JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES and the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY, who are themselves the earthly representatives of the heavenly messianic government formed in heaven back in 1914. The Harlot's sitting upon the Wild Beast supposedly depicts the mutually beneficial relationship which has existed between Satan's political and religious systems. The WATCHTOWER SOCIETY has further taught that the UNITED NATIONS would eventually attack and try to destroy the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY and JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES, and that it would be this event which would trigger Jesus Christ and his heavenly armies to come to earth and fight the armies of the UNITED NATIONS at the battle of Armageddon. Due to such WatchTower teachings, many JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES were shocked and disturbed when it became public knowledge in 2001 that the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY had been an official United Nations "AFFILIATE" or "ASSOCIATE" since January 1992. Sometime prior to July 1991, the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY voluntarily decided to submit the lengthy, multi-page APPLICATION required for formal "affiliation" or "association" with the United Nations Department of Public Information. The purpose of that APPLICATION was to verify the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY'S ability and willingness to SUPPORT the CHARTER of the UNITED NATIONS and PROMOTE such among WatchTower Society constituents. GOVERNING BODY MEMBER Lloyd Barry oversaw the submission of that original application, and Governing Body Member LLOYD BARRY continued signing the annual renewal forms until his death. GB Member Milton Henschell then signed the renewals until Don Adams took over this duty when he was appointed WBTS President. After 6 months of review and verification, the UNITED NATIONS Department of Public Information approved the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY'S application in January 1992. At that time, the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY jumped onto the back of the "scarlet-colored Wild Beast"; riding alongside numerous other religious organizations who also were official United Nations "AFFILIATES" or "ASSOCIATES". Since its inception, the UNITED NATIONS recognized that its GOALS of international "peace and security" could not be accomplished without the aid and assistance of religious, social, and other "non-governmental" organizations (abbreviated NGOs). The UNITED NATIONS CHARTER empowered the United Nations to establish formal relationships with NGOs willing to support and assist the United Nations in its efforts to accomplish the GOALS expressed in the CHARTER. When the WatchTower Society's formal affiliation with the United Nations was made public in September/October of 2001, the WATCHTOWER SOCIETY quickly submitted its resignation. Thereafter, a "damage-control" letter was mailed from the WatchTower'a Brooklyn, New York world headquarters to Branch Offices around the globe. This letter, dated November 1, 2001, opened with the following: "Because of published allegations by opposers that we have secret links with the United Nations, a number of branches have inquired about the matter and we have replied. This circular letter replaces any replies we have given earlier and is sent to all branches." Why does the WatchTower Society call these disclosures "ALLEGATIONS"? Had the WBTS been an OFFICIAL UNITED NATIONS AFFILIATE, or not? Was this fact SECRET, or not? Can the WBTS point to ANY public acknowledgment to its Jehovah's Witnesses members, be it verbal or written, that they had been an official UN Affiliate since 1992? If their relationship was not a SECRET, then it was the best secreted "non-secret" in history. AND, just what was the content of the "earlier replies" that this letter replaced? DENIALS? EXCUSES that would not stand up to scrutiny? The REVISED EXCUSE, which WatchTower Branches were to now use was: "Our purpose for registering with the Department of Public Information as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) in 1991 was to have access to research material available ... at the United Nations library facilities. We had been using the library for many years prior to 1991, but in that year it became necessary to register as an NGO to have continued access." First, why does the WatchTower Society label their relationship with the United Nations as a "REGISTRATION", when the United Nations expressly considers the relationship to be an "AFFILATION" or an "ASSOCIATION"? Do the words "register" and "registering" TRUTHFULLY AND ACCURATELY characterize a process that requires a 6 month long review of an Applicant's lengthy application; a contractual document intended to prove an Applicant's ability, willingness, and intention to support and promote the United Nations? Even worse is the Watchower Society's allegation that it was "NECESSARY" for them to become an official United Nations Affiliate in order for them to have continued access to the UN Library. Even if such allegation were true, how does the WatchTower Society justify voluntarily jumping onto and riding on the back of the "scarlet colored Wild Beast", simply so they can use the UN's Library? How does the WatchTower Society justify condemning other religions for riding on the back of the "scarlet colored Wild Beast", when THEY ARE SITTING NEXT TO THEM? How does the WatchTower Society justify disfellowshipping and shunning individual Jehovah's Witnesses who join YMCAs simply to use the Y's exercise facilities? At any rate, the UN Library has indicated that the WatchTower Society's allegation is not true. While officially Associated or Affiliated NGOs were granted automatic approval to use the UN Library in 1991/2, any credible researcher could apply directly with the UN Library for use of their facilities. Since WatchTower Society personnel had already been using the UN Library for years, "registering" with the Library would have been merely a formality. The WatchTower Society's letter to its Branches continues: "Registration papers filed with the United Nations that we have on file contain no statements that conflict with our Christian beliefs." The keywords are: "that we have on file". How would anyone know what "papers" survived this fiasco; what they may or may not say? And, given the facts in this situation, just what does it take to conflict with headquarters beliefs anyway? The WatchTower Socety Letter continues: "Moreover, NGOs are informed by the United Nations that 'association of NGOs with the DPI does not constitute their incorporation into the United Nations system, nor does it entitle associated organizations or their staff to any kind of privileges, immunities, or special status." That's TRUE, but what does it have to do with the issue at hand? This excerpt from the NGO Affiliation material (which the WatchTower Soiety couldn't seem to find when it really counted) is merely a "legal disclaimer". Obviously, affiliated NGOs do not change into UN departments (or "sections"). Neither do affiliated NGOs nor their staff receive the "privileges, immunities, or special status" which the UN Charter requires member nations to grant to UN Staff when they enter into or otherwise conduct business with member nations. The WatchTower Letter continues: "Still, the Criteria for Association of NGOs -- at least in their latest version -- contain language that we cannot subscribe to. When we realized this, we immediately withdrew our registration. We are grateful that this matter was brought to our attention." What is the WatchTower Society trying to pull by referring to a "latest version" of the "Criteria for Association of NGOs"? From the time NGOs were first considered for affiliation with the UN, the single most important "criteria" was that the affiliated NGO must SUPPORT the GOALS and EFFORTS of the UN. It is this unchangeable "criteria" that is at issue here. NGOs formally affiliated with the UN have always, IN EFFECT, been required to "swear allegiance" to the UN, and they always will be required to do so. Its a matter of common sense. The basic reason for the granting of formal affiliation is to obtain aid and assistance from an NGO in order to achieve the goals of the UN. "There are none so blind as those who refuse to see." The BOOK at auction is the 2001-2002 DIRECTORY OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INFORMATION. It is in "nearly like new" condition (light shelf wear). This Directory lists all UN affiliated NGOs, including the WatchTower Bible and Tract Society. It also contains the "criteria" required to obtain affiliated status, as well as expectations of affiliates. Every NGO got a copy of this Directory in December 2000, so the Directory is additional proof that the WBTS knew such "criteria" long before October 2001. Copies of this same or other year's Directories are next to impossible to locate. While various types of copies of pertinent pages are available, there is no substitute for the real thing. Copies can serve noble purposes, but there are no substitutes for the real mccoy. How many copies do you know of now that are now in the hands of private individuals? The value of this BOOK 20, 30, 50 years from now is beyond prediction.
